Did you see what happened? A Braves player did this to him first, then another player (who was 0-3) was running his mouth to Fernandez, saying his fastball wasn't shit. This was simply Fernandez giving it right back to Atlanta, then McCann took the holier than thou approach.

Also, catchers are generally douchebags. They interact with the other players more than anyone else. McCann probably thought he was going to be like Fisk when he yelled at Deion Sanders and got hailed for "teaching baseball 'the right way'".
