Quote:
ESPN.com reports: Home-plate collisons will be banned by Major League Baseball, possibly as early as next season but no later than 2015, MLB said Wednesday.

In response to injuries that result from collisions, catches will not be allowed to block the plate and runners will be prohibited from targeting catchers, rules committee chairman Sandy Alderson said. The changes are subject to approval by owners.

Good. Next get rid of take-out slides/the area play at second.

Why don't they just dress the catcher in a skirt? What's next, a prison sentence for hitting at batter?

You're right about that. We wouldn't want the Sox' new midget centerfielder to get hurt running into Miguel Olivo.

They should have two home plates. runner goes to the unoccupied one. Then after the play, they lift up a door on the plate and if Bud's face appears, you SCORE! otherwise YUROUT!

Stupid. Don't stand on the tracks when there's a train coming through.

If you can't run over the catcher, then he can't block the plate either. Its only fair. I say keep things the way they are.

You might as well have them bat off of a tee in case there's an angry and/or wild pitcher on the mound .... dedicate it to Kirby "The Rapist" Puckett and the Union Gap </Berman>.

Well, the new rule says the catcher won't be able to block the plate, which is a bit silly, and gives the runner a big advantage on a tag play.

Another rule to increase scoring!

Next thing they'll ban throwing at the on deck batter

I say a catcher should be able to block the plate, but only if he takes his shin guards off.

Stay in the on-deck circle and don't try to time a guy's pitches and you might not lose an eye. That fucker should have read the unwritten rule book.
