It would seem you can't barrel-ass right into the catcher ... you can only slide into him legally (a) assuming it is situationally appropriate, and (b) your body hits the ground before you make contact with the catcher ... I guess ... I've read it a half-dozen times and it feels like it reads differently each time.

I know how broken up you are that I couldn't explain it to you ... I'll keep reading it and trying though.

What happens when the catcher is guarding the plate without the ball and the runner is deviating from his normal course of running to knock the catcher out?

I know safety is the thing now but I'm not going to recognize my favorite sports in a few years.

The way I heard it explained on the radio:
Catcher can still block the plate as long as he has the ball other wise he needs to stay clear. Either line up in front or back of the plate.

I'm sure this has nothing to do w/ Sumo Wrestling.

I understood it as you can't make contact above the waist. You can still slide into the catcher, but you can't stand up and run him over.

Reason given was to make it easier for the runner to know what to do when approaching the plate.

Pete Rose doesn't like this

Dave Henderson doesn't like this

Michael Barrett asks, "Can I still punch them in the face?" :alien:

Baseball will still put you to sleep.

I understand the desire to do this but they are opening up a GIANT can of worms. Just ask youth baseball. There's going to be some very goofy bang-bang plays.
