B&B were talking about Tim Hudson. I'm not sure about him. I'm thinking Mussina is probably the best. |

I'd put Mussina and Halladay ahead of Hudson. Pettitte, too, if not for the scarlet letter. |

I agree 100%. Moose was a badass MoFo who pitched vs. whatever was thrown at him. Hudson pitched around his mammoth injuries and stilll does. |

There's not a surefire Hall of Fame starter pitching right now. If you're going to put Hudson in I don't see how you could leave Buehrle out. And as much as I love Buehrle, he isn't my idea of a Hall of Fame pitcher. |

I never liked Buehrle for the obvious reasons: pitched for the Sox, pitched well, looks like he got hit in the face with a pan. But as we've entered the era of Really Smart People Baseball, I've come to appreciate him as a guy who can pitch a ballgame in less time than it takes to perform the Ring cycle. We need more pitchers like him, frying pan to the face optional. |

What do you think of Smoltz getting in? I'd say above average shot, but not a first year like Pedro or the Big Unit. Ron Guidry also is semi-compelling to me as a veteran's nomination. Career a little short, but he had a few great years with the old school stats. |

He was a top flight starter for many years; he had a three year run as a dominating closer; and then came back and was excellent as a starter again. But his postseason success really puts him over the top. On a team with two first ballot guys, he was the best pitcher on the team when the money was on the line. I think Guidry is a little short. His comparisons would be Koufax and Dean, but to me, he just doesn't quite make it to their level. |

They are going to have to lower the bar a bit or reexamine when it comes to pitchers credentials or there won't be anymore more pitchers inducted after Mariano . They way starters are handled now its highly unlikely that any will see 300 wins again. Careers to short, money too big . Only going 6 innings leaves them open to losing a lot of wins ( poor Jeff Samardzija) . 250 might become the new 300 as the benchmark in the not too distant future. |

200 is the new 300 Pedro and Smoltz are in without question. You could argue Smoltz' career was better than Maddux and Glavine when you consider playoff performances and the closer switch CC was on his way, but that's in jeopardy right now Hudson and Buehrle are just below the line for me. They are probably the best candidates pitching right now EDIT: JORR beat me to it on Smoltz |

With or without bending over with Roger, he isn't close to any HOF discussion I want to have. And there is no way I'm putting Mussina or Hudson in. I never, ever would have paid dollar one, nor would have been excited to watch them pitch. My definition of "dominant" and "ace" pitcher excludes them (& Hudson) as well. They'll be fine in the hall of very good. |
