Dammit Theo, this is a guy that could've played 3B for the next 3 years. Hope Theo signs the cat in the offseason.

This guy sucks. He wishes he could put up Luis Valbuena numbers.

Masterson to the Cards.

He has been horrible and barely breaks 90 anymore. Therefore he'll go undefeated.

You just have to keep the ball down and drill any opposing batter who dares to get a hit against you. Carpenter is still involved with the organization so he will get him coached up.

Whoa, the A's got tired of the Cespedes injuries pretty fast.

That's a weird deal for Boston. Cespedes is a free agent after next season. They must think they can reload in the off season and compete for the WS next year. Boston also receives Oakland's competitive balance pick.

I don't think that's correct, Keyser.

Post subject:  Re: MLB trade deadline

Yes it is.

The deal precludes Oakland from offering Cespedes arbitration, meaning the outfielder will automatically become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2015 season.

Beane going for it all.

I guess Beane got tired of watching Hammel get shelled. Thought he needed insurance.

I believe only 1 or 2 pitchers ever acquired during the season have won a World Series game. I think Jeff Weaver might be the only one.

i loved how when he first showed up all the announcers tried REALLY HARD to say "cess-pid-hissssssss" all dramatically and shit.

so is oakland going to sign lester.... or is this some 2011 white sox "all in" mentality shit because in that division your only real competition is the angels and well... does the prospects of an aging jeff weaver and cj wilson after an uncharted-territory-in-terms-of-IP garrett richards really scare anyone?

/me hears the godzilla theme creep up in the background

OH NO HECTOR SANTIAGO IS COMING TO TOE THE RUBBER AND HE DOESN'T LOOK TOO AMUSED!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

in that case I like the deal. I'm a big A's fan, but I thought he was under contract through 2017.

I haven't heard many rumblings about your Brew Crew, Hawger. Are they going to get a bat? A bullpen arm? Something?

for who? if he's that big of a deal either the yankees or dodgers are going to sign him so it's kind of a moot point.

altho lester is prolly the kind of guy that the angels could show up out of nowhere and sign.

Lester, Shark, & Gray is a frightening 3-man postseason rotation.

It's not 2010 Phillies good (though other than mid-90s Braves, what is?). But it's head and shoulders above anyone else.

I'm all for anything that will induce a mild, preferably on-air stroke in Hawk.

The Cubs have a lot of money to spend. And they are going to spend it on pitching. My guess is they are very involved with Lester.

I believe they would like to add a bench left handed bat and a bullpen guy, but I am not sure if anything is going to happen. They are getting asked for some pretty good return and I am not sure the Brewers are ready to give some of it up. The offense this year has really shocked me as far as how inconsistent it has been. I think the starting pitching has been pretty good and the bullpen for the most part has been ok.

Billy Beane sees that Hammel n Shark are not going to be worth shit in the post season ...I like the move, Cespedes has a big bat....Oakland is goin to miss that offense.

lester has proven postseason cred, granted, but sonny gray is at 139IP right now and has never gone more than 152 in his professional career, and SHARK? dude isn't it about that time when he begins his annual harenesque pilgrimage to a 4.something ERA?

jeff's holding out at 2.92/1.11 right now, but i still think he's got it in him to get up to at least 3.50 or 3.75 by the time the year's out (as he's never had a sub-3.81 ERA season as a starter despite being anointed as this future ace)

and dating back to the days when the name "victor zambrano" used to haunt mets fans even worse than "alex ochoa", i'm still waiting for scott kazmir to explode over here.

so the team that effectively ruined javvy baez for at least a 1/2-to-full-season by giving him a spring training cocktease with the big club (remember, this is a kid who back in high school got the MLB logo tattooed on his back right under his neck where the logo would be when he wears a MLB jersey. no delusions of grandeur to report here) and oh whoops he looks like the best damn player in camp and he did just about everything in his power to warrant some of that baseball magic that gives the kid a chance to earn his way onto the team that breaks camp heading north for chicago.........

......so of course they sent him to fucking iowa, crushing him to the point where he had to go jack eli whiteside when he was prolly preaching some shit about how "LOOK MAN WE'RE ALL HERE TRYING TO WORK TOGETHER TO WIN GAMES AND YOU'RE NOT GONNA SIT HERE AND SULK WHEN THERE'S 30 GUYS IN THIS CLUBHOUSE WHO... *POW RIGHT IN THE KISSER*

yeah, so this team that undoubtedly made this baseball decision out of anything but financial reasons (don't wanna start his super 2 clock or whatever) are gonna turn around and "splash the cash" to go grab lester, or better yet, giancarlo station in the hopes of fulfilling the "sign a 28-29 year old manny ramirez" part of theo's plan that nobody seems to want to talk about.

i'll believe it when i see it. until then i'll go serve my penance for daring to question "the plan" by saying 10 hail bryants a day.
