And nobody put a claim on Darvish ... cmon Cubs

Surprised KC or Oakland didn't put a claim on Andrus or Beltre.

maybe re: darvish he's referring to the fact that he's currently on the DL with elbow tendonitis. they say hopefully only 2 start but you never know..... even tho it's slowed down since early season, when any good pitcher gives up 5-6ER you're liable to get a new elbow within a week or so.

Can you place a DL'd player on waivers?

DARvish is under a very reasonable contract though ..6@60 ...that is roughly half of what he could get on the open market ...Cubs should have made a move...Id trade Baez or Castro for Him in a heartbeat ..hell they offered that turd Sarardiza like 15 per.

Just because a team puts someone on waivers does not mean that they will just give him away. No way the Rangers would trade Darvish for just Castro or Baez. There is no point in putting a claim on a player you know you won't be able to trade for unless you are trying to block another team.

Now that they are through waivers, they are still available to be traded. Still no takers.

The Rangers aren't going to give him away regardless. And the Cubs sure aren't going to trade for an expensive pitcher with a long term deal while he's on the DL with elbow issues.

There are only 30 GMs and it's probably a good idea for each one to have as few of the others hating him as he possibly can. So that's why you don't just claim guys willy nilly to be an asshole or to satisfy the misguided fantasies of goofy fans. The only reasons to claim is that A) you actually want the guy or B) you are trying to block another team. In this case, neither applies.

Ok...
I guess ya overlooked the part where I stated. that Darvish was locked into a 6-60 $ deal...I believe 2 years in....that@is half price...maybe even 60% cheaper than the fair market value for him...why would ya think the Cubs , who haven't spent shit in 5 years wouldn't be interested

Don't we pretty much go through this every year?

Don't all teams pretty much put everyone on waivers?

Just because a team puts someone on waivers does not mean a deal can be made.

The Rangers would be stupid to deal him. They expect to retool and be better relatively quickly. Darvish will be a huge part of that.

and no, Dusty Baker, it isn't harder because he's black. It's harder because strategically, he is bad at managing. People bad at their jobs should be replaced, irregardless of the team (or, company) success.

Former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington escorts his wife Gerry, left, away after Washington made …

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said Thursday that he is embarrassed for breaking the trust of his wife of 42 years, offering some insight but few details for his sudden resignation two weeks ago.

''I made a mistake and I'm embarrassed more than I've ever been in my life,'' Washington said. ''I was not true to my wife, after 42 years. I broke our trust. I'm here today to own that mistake and to apologize to her, and to those I disappointed, and those who have trusted in me, and I let them down.''

Washington never said what that mistake was during his 3 1/2-minute statement, his first public comments since he resigned Sept. 5. Washington's wife, Gerry, and an attorney sat in chairs to the side of the podium in the hotel meeting room more than 15 miles from the Rangers' ballpark. They left without taking questions, with Washington putting his right hand on her right shoulder as they departed through a back door.

''Today, I'm at a very low time in my life. I'm sorry for breaking the trust that I had with my wife and for disappointing my players, for disappointing my coaches, disappointing Major League Baseball, and for disappointing the Texas Rangers,'' he said. "All I ask for your forgiveness and your understanding.''

The 62-year-old Washington asked that everyone respect the couple's privacy, ''as we go on with our lives. This matter is certainly personal, and we've been trying hard to put it behind us.''

Washington led the Rangers to their only two World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. The team's winningest manager was nearing the end of his eighth season, and was expected back in 2015, when he stepped down.

He thanked the Rangers for the experience and opportunity to manage, and also thanked Texas fans.

The Rangers had no response to Washington's statement Thursday, noting that Washington resigned ''to turn his full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter,'' and that any inquiries regarding the situation should be directed to the former manager.

Washington, as he strongly indicated in texts to several people following his resignation, again expressed his desire to get back in baseball. He didn't say when hoped that would be, and if he wanted to manage again or be a coach like he was for 11 seasons in Oakland before joining the Rangers.

''I was born to be a baseball player. I'm a baseball lifer,'' Washington said. ''I look to the future and getting back into the game and continuing my career.''
