Steamer, is a projection system used by people that JORR probably hates, and is based on 600 plate appearances, 450 PA for catchers.

Some interesting names on here, they seem to like Kris Bryant (although, the likelihood of him actually getting 600 PA is nil)

Thanks dude, that's probably better for people looking at it on their devices. I generally suck at the technical aspects of posting

Of course I hate it, because it's claptrap.

Like I said, claptrap.

Projections are fun. Nothing too serious.

And JORR, Im confident you cant convert the info for the players who will get less than 600

Is this sorted by WAR? If it's a projection system why can't they project PA? Tulo with 600 PA? Yea, ok, sure.

How does it know Bryant will be a plus defender? We don't even know what position he'll play.

I don't think it knows that. These projection systems are kinda nutty with how they interpret minor league stats. It has his Def value at 0.0 which says he's exactly average. I think the 2.0 dWAR it projects him for is from simply standing at a defensively hard position.

As RPB alluded to, these things shouldn't be used poorly as any kind of ruling on a players' definitive worth. Sort of a fun evaluation that kicks off the Hot Stove season. We don't know if any front office is looking at these systems, or some unknown proprietary rankings only known to Theo/Beane's/InsertGM's laptop

I sorted it by WAR, yes in the original link... sort it by OPS and it's still facinating to me. I think the idea behind it is attempting to find a mean of what a guy could do, based on his age given a full year's playing time. The slashlines are easily understood by anyone who has followed baseball, and the old school baseball card counting stats are fun to look at too.

I find it fascinating that it thinks a fulltime Mike Olt would slash .207 / .287 / .377 with 22 bombs and 189 SOs. :eye:

No manager, ever would let him get anywhere near those numbers...

Phegley is second best player on Sox, tied with Ramirez.

Maybe this thing is on to something.

Josh Phegley is not one of the best 20 catchers in the world.

Here's another thing that will probably annoy JORR.

I find this stuff fun and fascinating. Mariners projected for 89 wins!

I'm not sure this was a serious inquiry, but without looking it up; Kottaras is sort of a guy that is the definitive "replacement level". I envision replacement level as somewhere in the talent range of a AAAA guy
