THIS DAY IN BASEBALL—April 13 1963: Cincinnati Reds rookie second baseman Pete Rose, who is hitless in his first 12 major league at-bats, collects his first hit when he triples off Pirates hurler Bob Friend leading off the eighth inning of the Reds 12-4 loss to the Pirates at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Rose will go on to accumulate 4,255 more hits in the majors to become the game's all-time hit king. |
