Is it me or has umpiring this year been more questionable than in the past?
I think it has been, largely because they're not afraid to make bad or questionable calls because of video review.

I think so too, but with the Cubs being not awful, I'm watching substantially more baseball this year, which might skew my opinion.

Plus if you are a Cubs fan, it seems Maddon is railing on the strike zone everyday.

Its always been bad, I have been a strong proponent of a home plate sensor... A ball is a ball , fuck these guys with their random expanding or shrinking zones.

in the 6-8 games so far this season i have sat and watched, i have actually found myself being pretty impressed with how GOOD the umps calling balls and strikes have been. granted, the strike zone graphic on tv is not exact top to bottom depending on the person hitting, but generally when they show the replay of a close pitch i have found the ump to be right a lot higher percentage of the time than wrong. in last nights cubs game there were a couple questionable calls that i can remember but even those were barely tickling the edges of the zone. i was getting more agitated watching lester posturing out on the mound that i was at the call. just throw the fucking ball and stop trying to show the umpire up, you are going to get some calls and not get others. that goes with the territory it you are trying to nibble on the outer-most millimeter of the plate all the time.

Oh man, I'm not talking about balls and strikes, I'm talking about a couple blown plays at bases...
When calls are overturned as both Robin and Joe have had the last couple days that's gotta be an unquestionable call. Many overturns the last couple days.
