I always am amused when they say Ty Cobb was a racist to disparage him. Don't get me wrong. Racism is bad. He was a racist. But you know what? SO WAS EVERY BASEBALL PLAYER IN THE 1920s. Furthermore, MLB, as an institution, was racist. AS THEY DIDN"T ALLOW BLACK PLAYERS IN THEIR LEAGUE.  So to point this out about Cobb is laughable. Also, the majority of white males who didn't play baseball were also racist in the 1920s. |
