B&B had him immediately to Red Sox or Toronto. Next update the bimbo also mentioned it. Why do I even listen to this shit other than a connection to Chicago? |

Dombo got out of dodge and left the next guy holding a giant bag of money. Miggy's great and all but I don't know how he's going to look earning $28M in 2016-17, $30M from 2018-21 and $32M in 2022-23. I DO know that Verlander will look terrible earning $28M a year until 2019. He also left Annabelle making $37M over the next 2 years, Kinsler $30M over 2 years and $54M over 3 years for Victor Martinez. That's a ton of dead money he left on the books. Have fun digging out of that mess, Al. |

To be fair to Dombrowski, he was asked to win now, prospects and developing talent in-house be damned. Tigers came close again and again. But always seemed a piece shy of putting together a championship team. Apparently the owner of the Tigers liked to give input into free-agent signing decisions, and it turned out to be to the detriment of the ballclub. 2010 off-season, Adrian Beltre's coming off his 1 season deal in Boston and the expectation is the Tigers, with Brandon Inge's contract expiring, will be among the teams eager to sign Beltre. Esp since Dombrowski and Beltre's agent Scott Boras--at the time--seemed to be BFF's. Well, Dombrowski announces at the end of the 2010--after being told to do so by the Tigers owner Ilitch--the Tigers would be re-signing Brandon Inge, without even letting Inge test free agent waters. And with Adrian Beltre available for what turned out to be less than anyone expected. Beltre lingers in free agency til January, no doubt cheesing off Boras. Before the Rangers sign him. Beltre from 2011-2013, averages 35 HRs, 100 RBis and a .900 OPS, while playing gold-glove caliber 3B. Inge hits .197 with a .548 OPS that first season of his new deal, and is DFA'd by the Tigers the first month of the next season, with time remaining on his contract. A few years later, Pizza Pizza guy gets the brilliant idea to sign Prince Fielder (on account of Ilitch liked Cecil) to a ginormous contract and move Miguel Cabrera to 3B. Playing the hot corner wears on Cabrera over the season, and despite hitting well, he's cleary injured later in the year into the post-season. Fielder craps out due to wifey issues and gets dumped to Texas for Kinsler. Dombrowski always got paid well and Illitch was loyal to him. But giving into the owner to bring back Inge over Beltre likely cost the team the World series championship they went balls out to win. |

How much input does Mike Ilitch himself still have, and how much is his wife, his son, or his toupee that has become sentient? How many more first-round outs until Ken Holland is gone too? Why were the Tigers so married to Brandon Inge, anyway? |

Inge was their Gordon Mendoza for the Sox. He crippled that team with Verlander n Miggy deals. The strange thing was both had multiple years left on their previous deals . He could never put a bullpen together . |

Ilitch loyalty. Inge also made a stink about how much he liked living in SE Michigan. Then Inge bugged out back home to Virginia as soon as he was cut. |

I think he was done after the season and when they turned into sellers at the deadline they decided to cut ties now. Everyone thinks Boston is a foregone conclusion but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in LAA. |

I suspect he saw Friedman making $10M a year, asked Ilitch to bump him up (DD contract expiring), didn't get the answer he wanted... sold off a bunch of veterans at the deadline, Ilitch minions saw it as a natural time for a parting of ways |

Tuned in via the tune-in app to Detroit's 97 FM the Ticket sports talk radio and they were in the middle of taking a call on the topic of "who or what is to blame for the Tigers failure to win a championship" in recent seasons. the caller's culprit: Ilitch's loyalty to Brandon Inge. Inge was popular with fans. Often winning the text message player of the game poll. Lotta of Inge jerseys around the games. etc. they also mentioned an incident from Dombrowski's first year as Tigers GM in which he didn't know he was being recorded and spoke openly to a group of season ticket holders about the Tigers shite roster: http://a.espncdn.com/mlb/news/2002/0722/1408837.html I guess some female beat reporter from one of the local papers called him out on it; he lambasted her and denied he said what she claimed he said; and then she produced the audio tape of him saying it. |

Dipoto took an advisory position with the Red Sox. That's interesting. I thought he'd get one of the open or soon to be open GM jobs. Maybe he knows Cherington is on the hot seat. |

The person that should have been fired is Brian Cashman, who apparently has no interest in doing his job. |

That was a no-brainer. |

So he did go to Boston. Well at least he'll be able to carry on his tradition of throwing around terrible contracts. They LOVE terrible contracts there. |

While he wants to be here and they gave him a big raise, you can only bypass so many GM jobs in your life. |

Toronto hired Mark Shapiro as team President. I hope Toronto's front offices have room for all his WS trophies. |
