No black people?
Astroturf?
A bucket of amphetamines in every clubhouse?
Ban weightlifting?
Mandatory tobacco chewing?
No batting hemlets?

How exactly, should we make baseball fun AGAIN?

The game has and always will be fun, not just the raw excitement of hockey and football.

My suggestions:

-Spread games out each day like football does on Sundays. At least one noon-ish game each day for each league. Then have a 3:30-ish game in the same manner. I hate all night games all on at roughly the same time. I would like something to pay attention to throughout the day.
-Get early season games into warm cities and domes.
-I am done with the goofy inter league stuff.

Since people get mad when people point out that the season is too long, maybe the answer is a 324 game season.

Place landmines in the outfield in random locations.

Encourage headhunting and retaliation.
Legalize steroids.
Institute full contact in the outfield and allow said "tacklers" to hit the outfielder before the ball gets to them.
Get them all drunk. Especially the Jesus-y ones.

Serious answer

Cut the season by 12 games
Add another round of playoffs in it's place
Get rid of the one-off wild card game
Beer sales to bottom of 8th
Cubs World Championship

Building on Angus...

Have a pitch clock, kind of like the shot clock in basketball. No more of this Steve Trachsel bullshit, taking 15 minutes to throw a damned pitch. Now, I know there are concerns you are going to put the pitchers in harms way forcing them to pitch quicker, but then you just have to switch out the starter faster. Boo hoo.

No more batter and catcher timeouts. Get that shit together before the inning starts. End mound visits altogether. When the manager wants to change the pitcher or fielder, just check in with the ump.

DH in both leagues. I don't want to see pitchers batting. Ever. That's not why I want to watch baseball. I want to see guys hit the ball.

Use the actual strikezone (letters to knees) or if that's too difficult, change the requirement to five balls for a walk. That second part is radical and I wouldn't really like to see it, but the game is being ruined by batters going up there to "see pitches" rather than trying to hit the damn ball. There was an Abreu at-bat last night where the first pitch was a hanging curveball from Bassitt that was so ripe a child should have been able to whack it into the stratosphere. But it was the first pitch so Abreu had no intention of swinging. He never got another pitch to hit that was that good the rest of the at-bat and he ended up striking out. One thing about the Royals, they're not boring to watch.

As Gary Coleman told his star player in The Kid from Left Field. "Everyone knows you take the first pitch so you get a strike every time, go up there and take a whack"

Homerun.

You know, if you listen to someone like bernstein, or even Hawk, they love to talk about all these flame-throwing motherfuckers as if that's the reason teams are striking out at ridiculous rates. But it's the batters that are striking themselves out. Guys like Hendricks and Quintana aren't "dominating" pitchers but they still strike out tons of batters.

I don't mind the number of games in the regular season, but I do mind games in the cold weather. Regular season should be May 1 through Labor Day weekend. That likely does shrink the number of games, but some could be made up with going back to Double Headers...which I love.

I know one day they will force the DH on the NL. I like the difference and find no value in making the leagues the same.

I like inter-league play, but preferred the original version where it was consolidated mid-season.

Going along with inter-league play, the one game play-in for the wild card is stupid. Needs to be a series.

replay has been a waste of time. rip that shit out.

agreed on a pitching clock and eliminating catcher time-outs.

I would also add a limit on pitching changes per inning. That's also a waste of time.

Strike outs are fun. Walks or boring but important. I don't like 5 balls for a walk. Enforcing a real strike zone from knees to letters would be way more fun and increase the pace of the game.

I think baseball is very fun and always has been. Slow pitching and cold weather is what makes it NOT fun.

I do like the spreading out of games on a Sunday, like the NFL, some games around noon or 1 and the others at 4-430 and then ur Sunday Night Game.

I also look at it, as that is the game you still want to go to as a Fan, if ur at the game, you don't care how long it takes, I'm hoping this year to make it to Milwaukee and Cincinnati, and if do, don't care how long the game takes while I'm there.

Quit all the saber talk....it like I'm taking permutations and combinations again. At my neighbors last night ( I usually mute the game) they brought up perceived speed  and neither buffoon knew what it was! When there are breaks in the action wet get to hear OPB WAR OBPS and on and on.I find myself yearning for Hawk talking about Yaz having a steak in the clubhouse and sleeping on the training table. That's it that's what the game needs more yarns and less yawns!

1. Yeah, I like when they do this for Opening Day and you can get a full tripleheader in. I like the idea for Fridays and weekends, but realistically speaking with getaway days and the general aversion to day baseball that even afflicts the Cubs now, you're not going to get teams eager to have 3:35 first pitches on Wednesday afternoons.
2. This is absolutely what should happen. Unfortunately, the teams who would take on these early home games even bitch about the ones they have now because even though the weather is okay, kids are still in school, and people are no more in Baseball Mode down there than they are up here. I'm not buyin' it. Have San Diego host games in April and then get out in June when the city is engulfed in fog or whatever weird sea phenomenon goes on down there.
3. Yeah. Three and three with your designated league rival and that should be it. I'm always up for some Cubs-Sox ball, preferably around Memorial Day or the 4th, but I don't want interleague all year with teams I don't care about. Make the NL/AL split matter. Put Houston back in the National League and put two new teams in the AL when we get there, and we're getting there.
