After Hockey Twitter flipped its shit about the Habs trading P.K. Subban, the Habs have so far won eight in a row, they're at +21, and haven't lost in regulation. (And Carey Price is back. That helps.) Meanwhile, Nashville kinda sucks so far. The other trade that everyone freaked out about, Hall for Larsson, has been better for the Oilers than it's been for the Devils.

Kind of a mucky start to the season overall, with no one bottoming out for the big #1OA sweepstakes like the last two years. No one's too high (except the Habs), no one's too low.

They're loaded at defense with Josi, Subban, Ellis, and Ekholm, but at forward they still have too many of those fungible Trotz-style Milwaukee Admirals callups who have no creativity or value. Also, Ribiero sucks, Fisher is old, and Johansen is lazy. And then you have Pekka Rinne falling apart from years of being overused for no good reason. I hope it all goes to shit for them; New South hockey fanbases are the cockiest fuckers in sports.

Goals are way up this season across the league, hopefully that continues.

As for the Subban Weber trade...I wasn't impressed with what I saw from Subban in the two games vs Nashville earlier this year. For everything good he did he also did something completely bone headed stupid.

The people who are stat-driven to the point of excluding anything remotely human like to talk about how the only enforcer you need is a power play. Guess who ranks 9th, 3rd, 4th, 2nd, and 1st among defensemen in minor penalties over the last five seasons? Looks like Subban made teams playing the Habs do a lot of enforcing!

Oh, and in aggregate over the last five years, Subban is third among defensemen in minors at 172 in 355, trailing noted cerebral assassins Dion Phaneuf (172 in 351) and Dustin Byfuglien (175). There is so much that people want Subban to be.

Meanwhile in Raleigh, just 2 and 1 with a -7 in 11 for Teuvo Teravainen. I know that team sucks, but his line would probably be about the same here, don't you think?

I'm just happy he is gone and someone else is paying some part of that money. Its such a dick move to be the big guy/shot blocker/in front of the net guy to get a contract and then to blatantly become a huge vajay once you get paid. Total dead ass player now.

Nothing happened. He's the same guy there he was here: everyone coos over the short and slight European because of his infinite potential (no one does this for big tall Europeans) which shows itself once in a while but mostly doesn't.

There's more to it than that. Teuvo didn't want to work hard in the summer, wanted to spend his summers in Finland golfing. It shows in his lack of improvement from season to season. Even in a locker room with guys like Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, etc he still didn't feel the need to work hard over the summer. Did anyone think that attitude was going to improve going from the Hawks locker room to Carlinas?

Haha, it's like the Treehouse of Horror where Homer is sent to Hell to eat donuts. "Oh, you like to golf, do you? Let's see how you like to golf IN A METROPOLITAN AREA MADE ENTIRELY OF GOLF COURSES!"

If you have the package there's a fun one tonight in Pittsburgh with Connor McDavid coming to town. Should get a nice reception since he played juniors for Erie.

Hopefully we'll get to see some McDavid vs Crosby line matchups.

They hung a 10 on the Habs when Carey Price had the night off. There are some good things happening out there, shame about the idiot coach who will be their undoing.

Senators waive the Hamburglar. Would you claim him and consider trading Darling before we lose him to Las Vegas for nothing?

I'd rather keep Darling for this year's Cup run (remember how important he was in 2015) and lose him in the expansion draft than trade him.

As I suspected when the Flames made the trade on draft day, Brian Elliott is just another Canadian diaper baby who can't play for shit when he's in a high-pressure environment. He's all but lost his starting job to six-team-backup-in-seven-years Chad Johnson, with Elliott at 3.43/.882 in 719 minutes and Johnson at 1.98/.928 in 667. Hope you get your game back in Phoenix when they sign you for $2.5 a year, chump.

EDIT: 6/27
Curious Hair wrote:
Elliott was shit in Ottawa and only got good once he was playing with Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk in front of him in a Hitch system.

It's a funny thing about St. Louis: Canadians, historically, really like it there. Lots of guys retire there and stay. They seem to feel comfortable because it's a medium-sized town with friendly people where nothing really happens, like most of Canada, but with the added benefit of no one giving a shit who you are. Canadian players thrive on that because Canadian hockey players are secretly big whiny diaper babies. That won't be the case in Calgary, where there's not only a ton of attention on the Flames but a great deal of angst about goaltending being the difference between Gaudreau/Monahan/Bennett/Giordano/Brodie going to the second round of the playoffs and missing them altogether. So the answer to that question is a system goalie going to an uptempo team under high pressure? Oy. This is gonna be Bryzgalov with the Flyers all over again, another guy who can't make the transition from country club to fishbowl. Elliott is gonna suck so bad in Calgary, he's gonna flirt with out-of-the-NHL numbers and make us all incredulous that he singlehandedly knocked our guys out of the first round.

Well, .882, when you're right, you're right.
