NHL free agency starts July 1st. Teams are supposedly going to be plentiful with new impending CBA scaring GM's from offering rich long commitments to a marginal free agent class (Jay Feaster did not get the memo). Some off-season deals have already been brokered:

Colin Fraser LAK - 1.65m for 2 years
Jarrett Stoll LAK - 9.75 for 3 years.
Dennis Wideman CGY - 26.25 for 5  (Say goodbye to any hopes of Suter to Hawks)

Jordan Staal traded to Canes for a bounty
Pens dump Michalek to PHX. Will likely regain competence under Tippet.
Schenn and JVR swap teams
Bobrovsky goes to goalie hell in Columbus
Anders Lindback traded to Lightning

There's been more but can't remember off the top of my head. Discuss or don't. Whatevs.

I didn't think that was even a consideration... Northside Dan notwithstanding of course...

Jonathan Quick signs 10 years for $58 million. Unlike the Luongo deal the Kings are getting Quick's prime years. Won the Stanley Cup, got paid, and now backstopping the red/white/blue in 2014 is next on this stud's checklist.

That Crosby contract is gonna look real bad when he doesn't know what his name is after his next concussion.

Absolutely nuts. Both signed $98M for 13 year deals (~7.5M cap hits). The Wild now have quite an interesting roster. Koivu, Heatley, Parise, Setoguchi and Granlund with Coyle in the minors is a nice foundation for a top-6. Their bottom-6 isn't too shabby either with Brodziak, Clutterbuck Mitchell and probably some plugs.

Their backline is pretty barren after Suter though.

Looks like winning was third on Suter/Parise priorities, location and money being 1 & 2. Their roster does look sorta impressive on paper, but the Wild? God dammit.

Sucks that Bowman whiffed, and if the team sucks he'll be blamed for striking out across the board. Team needs a trade desperately unless they feel content with Shaw, Saad, and the rest of these young forwards to be the depth that can put this team over.

This better be Stan's last year if they don't make the playoffs. He had to clean up the Tallon mess but he's whiffed on his personnel choices. This could be a loooong winter.

Agreed Dewskie.

I've gone from dynasty thoughts a few years ago to wondering if Stan has any idea what the fuck he's doing.

Good for them, Minnesota should have a strong hockey team... Nashville gets a little softer, and Detroit swings and misses on both, it could have been a lot worse.

And Carle healthcare goes to Tampa for 6 year/$33 million, have fun with that, Hedman and Brewer lay a nice defensive foundation though...

It's easy to get bent out of shape about not having any shiny new toys, but when we look at the new bad money everyone is getting (Dennis Wideman good god), we're reminded that Bowman did a pretty good job locking up players ahead of time: even Oduya's contract doesn't seem so bad anymore, and Sharp and Seabrook look terrific. I'm frustrated that we couldn't find that #2 center, but one wasn't really available. I guess it's a good thing Terrible Doofus Stan Bowman has composed one of the best farm systems in the league, and when you consider that the organizations that are better are ones like the Senators and Islanders, it might be the best farm-team-to-actual-team ratio in the league, if we can measure such a thing.

Keep calm and Brandon Pirri

Wideman is bad money.
Carle is worse. :?

The inactivity by the Hawks (to me) is yet another sign of the internal struggles/conflicts that is going on with the higher ups.

I saw that they were interested in Doan, but not it Semin, I didn't reall get that... Wouldn't you prefer Semin on the left side of Toews and Hossa rather than Stalberg? Seems to make sense to me...

The Hawks' track record with flaky Russians is, how you say...less than encouraging.

Some may argue that his deserting the Blackhawks organization for the KHL is a bad sign, but I think this Andrew Ladd for Ivan Vishnievsky trade is really gonna pan out in the long run.
