Lately I started going all the way back to the end of the archives at HF boards and reading topics from the draft/prospect board. Goes all the way back to 2003. Needless to say, there are some pretty hilarious predictions/comments. Gonna start posting some in this thread. Here's a good one from September of 2004 from a guy who just watched a couple future blackhawks in a junior game...

First off, I saw them both play today and was I ever impressed with Cam Barker. He's going to be at the very worst a #4 dman in the league.

Brent Seabrook on the other hand was..well he was questionable to say the least. Didn't see the skating that I had hoped to see, suspect at best, didn't see the shot I was expecting to see, and didn't see the decision making, reminded me a lot of an Adrian Aucoin type body, but the mental side of Brent Sopel (of a couple seasons ago).

Not a bad autmosphere at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge. 5,597 horn blowing albertans.

Saw many Canuck jerseys, enjoyed that.

Anyone seen Seabrook play? Or Cam Barker?

Here's a good one from 12-5-04 from a fan who was sick of all the hype around a certain prospect...

..and let me say Crosby will be lucky to be in the top 10 in scoring at any time in his career. He's not the next coming of Jesus Christ.

I'm sure if you plumbed the Blackhawks Toews-drafting thread you'd find some real winners.

From January 2005....

Hey Guys,

Here is my early projection for the 2006 NHL Entry Draft....I've seen several of these players play, and infact I've also seen a bunch of them play against each other.

Anyway I look forward to your comments....let the fun begin.

1st Overall in 2006 -
F - Michal Frolik - 6'1, 176 - CZECH
I've known this kid was special since watching him play LAST winter at the Viking Cup in Camrose. At the time he was fifteen. He was making players 5-6 years older then him just look stupid. Watching him at the World Jr's have just solidified his status as number one for me.

13th Overall
-----------------------------
F - Jonathan Toews - 6"2, 185- SHATTUCK H.S.
This kid led his team to a gold medal at the World Under 17's with 12 points to lead the tournament. I can see his stock improving quite a bit, it'll be interesting to see where he goes to play next year.

From October, 2005.....

I think i'll be alone on this but my opinion:
1. Frolik
2. Malkin
3. Kessel

Here's a good one from January, 2007...

Who's going on hype? One showing of Kane at the WJC's and you're all over his jock.

It's one tournament! A tournament where team Canada had a ton of defensive depth, and Alzner was not asked to play that role.

Look at Kessel from two years ago. Tore it up, and many projected him as the "American" Sidney Crosby. He has struggled to make adjustments at the NHL level and is not nearly as tiny as Kane is. The razzle dazzle works at the junior level, but you have to learn how to play a complete game to be successful-see O'Sullivan, Patrick as well.

The thing about Alzner is he is good at almost everything. No, he does not play an overly physical game, but neither do Lidstrom or Niedermeyer. Alzner has terrific hockey sense, he's an amazing passer, and he can skate extremely well for a big man.

Let's be honest here Spongy, you like Kane because he is flashy, and you dislike Alzner because he is not. However, when you take all things into account, Alzner is simply the better NHL prospect. Kane may have a higher top end, but the odds of him reaching it are pretty slim IMO

Here's the best one yet, from a Philly fan in April of 2007....

I hope with everything in me Kane goes first overall to Chicago. The kid is incredibly talented, but not the player I want to see in Philadelphia. I may live to regret those words, but only time will tell.
