I think they experimented with sudden death in 02 or 06.

Good showing from Algeria. They've got some grown ass men running real ass stuff. I think almost a dozen players were born in France and are thus FFF rejects. Would have been awesome to see France and Algeria in the quarterfinals considering their history. I think Germany is going to regret the 4 CB lineup they keep throwing out there. Lahm is good as a holding midfielder but is world class at RB. They were actually outplayed by Algeria in the first half. Could have used his pace out on the wing.

Argentina isn't impressive but Messi and Di Maria are enough to beat the Americans if they get through Belgium

For as bad as the U.S. was outplayed, if Wondolowski puts in that sitter in the 90th minute, the U.S. is getting ready to play Argentina on Saturday. If Wondolwski is able to connect on the cross in the 115 minute or so, we probably see penalty kicks. Of course he will probably lead the MLS in scoring.

Making the second round in 3 out of the last 4 World Cups is an accomplishment, but it just goes to show the level you need to be to win a World Cup. Belgium was at a different level than the U.S. today, but can you see them winning the WC? I can't. There are no fluke teams to win the World Cup, which is why it was laughable when Klinsmann was criticized for saying the U.S can't win. He was right, sooner or later you will get exposed.

I was glad to see Belgium was not flopping all over the place like some other teams I have seen.

I hope to see them keep going

The only game the US won, Jozy started, I'm endlessly amused by that.

that was one of the best parts of the match...neither team really flopped that much. that was really refreshing.

i'm disappointed that we couldn't show off a little more because i do think we had some talent...we keep having to go back to 2002 (which still had an up and down group stage that we got through)--however, it is nothing to feel bad about getting to the round of 16. i think the ghana victory may have spoiled us a bit, and losing those 2 points in the final seconds of the portugal game was deflating.

the match against belgium was very intense and showed we still have massive holes in the midfield but our defense can hold their own and our keeper is world class. if there was a case to be made for having donovan in the 2014 world cup, i think belgium would have to be the exhibit a. he really would've helped with pace, control, and possession. i think his WC work has been spotty but he would've been able to give a better showing than michael bradley did...who i think played himself off the team and never had to pay the consequences for it.

i'm loving costa rica right now...i hope they can beat the dutch.

I would love to see France pull it out but I just don't see it happening. Benzema is determined to take every shot he can.

Considering it was Neymar, I thought for sure he had flopped again. Guess I was wrong...

Yeah he doesn't deserve to have his back broken or anything, but if he wasn't a pathetic diver he might have gotten a card out of it at least.

Q: How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris?
A: Nobody knows, it's never been tried.

Colombian did that on purpose. Should draw a suspension. Pretty vicious actually.

Patrick Stewart to play Robben in the Lifetime movie of this World Cup--as long as the makeup people can make Stewart look convincingly as old as Robben.

Holland is on the left/green for some reason:

easy win in penalty kicks for the Dutch, 4-3 (Holland didn't need to kick their 5th attempt).'

Costa Rica had Danny Devito in goal while Holland brought in some NBA sized dude for the penalty kicks.
