Post subject: | Sini, I need a team |
Been starting off my Sundays watching the Premiere League lately. Nice way to ease into the day watching a bunch of chaps who appreciate their sport and opportunity they've been given without the politics associated with the garbage that is the NFL and NBA. Looking for a team to root for though. Leaning towards Liverpool or Chelsea. Who should I direct my fandom towards and hooliganism against? |

I got into the english soccer like 5 years ago but have not since. It was a 2 year affair I guess you could say. Guy at work got me interested at that time. It was when the NFL had a strike I think or was threatening one. He got me leaning towards Chelsea but then I learned Chelsea are like the Red Sox of the English Soccer. So that sort of gave me a bad taste in my mouth. I don't watch closely but I would like to root for a team too. I won't root for Newcastle since they're the Cubs of English soccer. I can't handle another Cub like teams in my life. The real one is enough. |

I think Boyd and Sini are the Arsenal fans. There was a Chelsea supporter here for a long time, but I haven't seen him post in a long time. kissrules? I like Liverpool and I think W-Z likes Burnley....or Blackpool, or Blackburn....or some other league 2 club that starts with a B. I don't think I've missed anyone, I don't think there are any ManU people here - I DVR a lot of games on Sat and Sunday and scan through all of them but watch the full Liverpool games. They have the best player in the EPL - Mo Salah. He's great, and they're top of the table, so while in years past, there was a whole cluster of NBC channels that would air ALL the games for free, they only put some of them on the free NBCSports platform without having to subscribe to additional channels - so long story short, they have a fun club, fun manager, they're always on TV, etc. I find the whole concept of English football to be more interesting than American football in general, so I'll pretty much watch whoever is playing if it's on, but I'm not getting up at 6:30AM on the weekends to watch it live. So, Liverpool is your new club. You can also watch them every 2 weeks or so in the Champions League until they inevitably get bounced from that tournament too. YNWA. $0.02 |

Since 2000, with the exception of one time appearances by Leicester City and Newcastle United, the top three finishers come from this group: Arsenal Chelsea Manchester United Manchester City Liverpool Tottenham Hotspur If you want to root for a championship, you have to pick one of those six. |

Liverpool would be the Cubs to the Everton/White Sox counterpart. Spurs are the Indians or Tigers |

Arsenal fandom is like masturbating in a whorehouse. It used to be being the lamest kid at the cool kids party but now with back to back Europa league seasons we're technically not at the cool kids party anymore. Liverpool is the team of the now. They made the European cup (champions league) final last year and are considered the up and coming team in England. They're also kind of a cult like fandom that loves asking questions like "why are you so obsessed with Liverpool?" -- their pundits + analysts spread out through the English football media like a disease. YNWA/JFT96/YNWJFT96A/etc. Chelsea is the team that Julie DiCaro supports. Need I say more? Otherwise there aren't really Chelsea fans, except run of the mill gloryhunters I suppose? Oldschool Arsenal fans used to be that way but the glory has been gone away since approximately 2006. Arsenal has more soul than Chelsea cuz Chelsea was the original billionaire's plaything that gave sheikh Mansour the idea to do it with Manchester City. |
