3rd Round
6/8: Antigua and Barbuda
9/11! 9/11! 9/11! Jamaica
10/16: Guatemala

The Hex
2/6-10/15

It seems only 3/4 of the US Team can be functional at the same time. In 2010, despite a solid keeper and midfield with a serviceable defense, we were mostly sunk by terrible forward play. If the Brazil game is any indication our defense seems to be tanking now, well at least the center backs. We need to take 5 years off Boca to get him younger and 5 years off Gooch to get him healthier and unless we dig up some Tony Sannehs or David Regis' in the next year there doesn't seem to be anybody in the pipes to help. Old but still good: Donovan, Duece, Howard. Old and maybe okay: Dolo and Edu. Old and probably not okay: Gooch and Boca. The good thing is that Freddy Adu kid I heard so much about years ago must be in the prime of his Pele-esque career, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

I liked what I saw out of Fabian Johnson yesterday, never heard of him before the Brazil game, looks like he has some skill.

Torres seems to have some ball control abilites and Gomez may have a nose for the goal, which in previous years US forwards did not seem to have.

Gooch is terrible....slow, lumbering and his touch is horrendous. There has gotta be someone out there better.

We'll see if Klinsmann sticks with Jozy.

I was wondering about the wunderkind recently. Is he any good? The wiki thing didn't give me anything I would understand as I don't really follow soccer in the US or abroad, but I remember this kid because of all the hubbub.

The good news is that, at least at the top, we have 2 world class players in Dempsey and Donovan. When has the USA ever been able to say that? Throw in Bradley and we look really solid up front through the spine. So at least we have the personnel to score against anyone which is a change from years past. And now it appears that we have a coach who won't be afraid to try and actually capitalize on that strength.

I know our d sucks, but at the end of the day I'll be a lot happier if we go out in the WC losing games 4-3 and 3-2 as opposed to 1-0, 2-0 and the occassional 2-1.

To me, any team in the world can pack it in and hold on for a respectable score line, but going out and actually scoring goals vs world competition is the true sign of a team that has merit and class.

I wouldn't call Dempsey and Donovan world class. That's a nebulous label but it should be reserved for guys who are in the top 5 at their respective positions. No player who willingly plies his trade in MLS (Donovan) could ever be considered world class.

WC qualifiers are pretty boring for this squad considering it's expected to advance against the bilge it plays against in CONCACAF. Want to impress me? Beat Mexico in the Azteca this summer. Then get to the semifinals of the WC. Lots of middling shite have advanced to the semifinals in the last few World Cups: Turkey, South Korea, Uruguay, Croatia, Portugal. Don't see why this country can't.

Bit of a limp dick effort in the second half against Antigua and Barbuda last night. Someone send Onyewu to the glue factory.

I refuse to acknowledge South Korea's trip to the final 4. That should have an asterick next to it. That game was clearly fixed by the ref who, by the way, just happens to be serving 2.5 years in jail right now for heroin smuggling.

As for Dempsey and Donovan, I have lower standard for world class. To me, world class players are players who can step into any league in the world and be one of the best players on the pitch game in game out. Dempsey has reached that status this year. And the way Donovan played for Everton makes me believe he has that ability as well.

As for as players that are top 5 at their position in the world, I would call them global superstars.

donovan is not world class...dempsey though...well, you could argue he is. i think as a midfielder, he's got all the talent...and as a finisher, he's one of our best. mcbride as a forward would surpass him of course but dempsey has a pretty good spark.

donovan will go down as one of the great disappointments of US soccer as a national player. kinda like...wayne rooney for england.

DUMBEST. POST. EVER.

Donovan is the greatest player to ever wear the red white and blue. Its not even debatable. Here's an article I found where he was picked for the all time starting 11 for team usa....

Landon Donovan is the most talented player to ever put on a US jersey. He has had so much success with Team USA that he is hated for it in some parts of the world.

Donovan was a key figure in the US’s five-year unbeaten streak against their bitter arch rivals, Mexico. He infuriated Mexican fans by peeing just off the pitch during a game in Jalisco after the Mexican keeper allegedly insulted his mother.

His antics and success against El Tri have made Landon the most hated athlete in Mexico.

The quick winger is the U.S’s all-time leading scorer and the only man to be named the U.S. Soccer Player of the Year four times.

Landon Donovan made a name for himself during his first World Cup in 2002, where he was named Young Player of the Tournament by helping upset Portugal and reaching the quarterfinals.

Landon Donovan is the global ambassador of US soccer. His speed and creativity make him a dangerous weapon against any opponent and when it is all said and done he will be the best player to play for Team USA.

All time USA leading scorer
Young player of the tournament at the 2002 WC.
Scored the biggest goal of the 2010 WC

Yeah, sure sounds like he's a huge disappointment

lol.

what's so telling about this is that shakes can't even articulate his own argument, he has to copy and paste an irrelevant argument about donovan.

the guy never figured out what his role was after the 2000 world cup. he disappeared in the 2006 world cup, and since then took a very easy role of playing midfielder/forward even though he was clearly scared of being a finisher.

anyone who watches soccer seriously knows that the guy never reached his true potential. shakes is a front runner, though, so is it any surprise?

there's a reason why they called him land-o-lakes.

All time USA leading scorer
Young player of the tournament at the 2002 WC.
Scored the biggest goal of the 2010 WC

You're so full of crap.

Let me ask you something, who didn't disappear in the 2006 WC? The whole team was shit.

In 2002 he was the best young player in the tournament, has an USA player won such a prestigious honor in world soccer?

In 2010 he scored 3 of the 5 USA goals including the 90th minute winner vs Algeria that sent the team into the knock out stage.

Yeah, he's been a real disappointment.

You say he never reached his potential and maybe that's true, but he's the leading scorer in USA history and his accomplishments are second to none so even if he never became the player YOU thought he was capable of he still became the greatest player to ever wear the red, white and blue.

great argument.

So you're basically conceding that you were talking out of your ass.

I may have quoted an argument to support my feeling and then also added my own opinions in support, but all you've done is.....wait, I'm not even sure if you've done anything to support your ridiculous and baseless assertion.

Basically your argument is that the greatest and most decorated player in USA history is also the most disappointing player in USA history. Guy's led USA to the knockout stage in 2 of the last 3 WCs and you call him disappointing.

Fraud opinion is fraudulent.
