Or how to kill time in the middle of the week when you don't have a job. Watching Celtic/Shakhter Karagandy...great match so far, Shakhter has a 2—1 aggregate lead at halftime of the 2nd game. Based on the way this thing has gone, Celtic should be up about 4-0 in this match. Shakhter is a little too physical for their own good...Neil Lennon looks like he wants to kill one of them to make a point. |

Shakter sacrificed a sheep before the first leg. Those crazy Kazakhstanis. Scottish football is a joke, although I'm not sure if Ireland or Scotland would be hit harder by a Celtic loss. |

Rangers bankrupt and dropped to the bottom division last year, Hearts in administration, Rod Stewart crying because Celtic beat Barca, nobody getting out of the third qualifying round in the UEFA cup while losing to Belerusian giants, the only nation they're ahead of in WC qualifying is Macedonia, they're a bit shit. |

Heck of a game though, a couple of posts and a goal line clearance the last few minutes. |

If team Borat's goalkeeper hadn't been as good as he was early, this would've been a 6-0 match. And while I like Celtic, the Scottish league is about as interesting as the MLS |

Thanks for doing the leg work boyd. It's nice to have different guys creating these threads besides the same 4-5 dudes/shemales. Real Sociedad, relegated only 4 years ago, got into the knockout stages. I think the leagues in all of the "countries" that make up Great Britain should become part of the English FA. Let them keep their national teams. I don't know how such a merger would work. It would never happen because those leagues would have to forfeit the Champions League automatic qualifiers and goddamnit if I want to watch Sligo Rovers take on Cliftonville, which sounds like a town in southern Indiana, I will. |

It's not like Cardiff and Swansea aren't already in the EPL. Waiting on Wrexham and Newport County to join them. Need some IRE-NIR matchups. Linfield vs Shamrock Rovers games. Weird that NIR has better football teams, but I guess Ireland loves their Hurling too much. |

My fiance lived over there for a year, and she says it's all they talk about. |

I have a feeling UEFA will make a Chelsea-Galataasary match-up in the Round of 16. Drogba back to Stamford Bridge. Can see it coming from a mile away. When Mourhino was at Inter. UEFA drew Chelsea and inter Milan together for a Round of 16 match. Don't let UEFA fool you... The draw is rigged. |

Man United got a gift. Not even Moyes can fuck that up. City's and Arsenal's ties are tough but will be fun to watch. |

Ozil missed a peno. Szcznesy sent off after a "foul" on Robben. Fabianski in. And Alaba misses the peno! |

I'm sure Wenger is blaming the refs. What say you Cynical Lips? Think they can nick two goals in Munich? Yeah neither do I. |

Post subject: | Re: UEFA Champions League... |
oh fucking shit... well what is there to say? i went into the affair with no realistic expectation of coming out on top, but then the first 10 minutes happen and despite a ~30/70 possession split from there on out (no doubt helped along for the big picture by the red to szcz) i mean what can you expect to happen? weird stuff afoot.... wenger obviously wanted to prove a point to giroud re: his 3am tryst with that odd looking better-model-through-science chick b4 the scouser beatdown @anfield, so benching him for leg 1 of the round of 16 in the CL in favor of yaya sanogo should tell you something, although in all fairness sanogo looked pretty solid and i don't know what exactly giroud would have done what yaya didn't.... he's a tap in specialist whose game is better suited for an AM cuz if he doesn't get a proper tap in or it isn't literally the waning seconds of stoppage time versus everton, he's not going to get the ball and kick it at the goal really hard. that's evidently the stuff of legend and lore or of course yesteryear if you're an arsenal supporter. so yeah i mean..... it's a red but the fact that neuer and others said "wtf could he do?" still makes you shrug. it was then that the whole narrative of "the little engine that could" died and when the first goal came at 56' or 67' or whatever you're thinking "ok.... it's 0-1. somehow some way if they can hold this out then all you have to do is go 1-0 to force extra time / pens and 2-1 to win.... but then kosc tried to go out and start a break at a goalscoring chance and left muller open for a wonderful ball from.... lahm i think? yeah i mean that was clinical and that goal at 88' or 89' is the one that really stuck in the craw. expletives were given, but this is basically the best team in the world so if you go down to 10 men and get gassed and desperate running around, stuff like that muller goal is bound to happen, which sucks when i think they only got +2 out of the whole affair so they were literally 5 minutes from having a technically-manageable 1 goal defecit / 1 away goal against going out to munich.... but now that's 2-0 for extra time / pens and 3-1 to advance on away goals? 4-1/3-0 to win outright? yeah i mean.... hey there's a reason why we watch the games, but i don't know who's going to see that happening. so now arsenal has sundy on saturday morning (on the USA network no less, as i saw an EPL on USA ad during monday night raw and i found it odd that they advertised FKs saying HOLD THE WALL? PAY THE PRICE and then cut to somebody chris chandelier style woozy with a bloody nose and it's like EPL ON USA: TRUST US, IT'S VIOLENT. well fuckin aye. this arsenal squad is a bunch of mental midgets (except for prolly flamini.... i wonder wtf jack did to piss him off in training today?) so you hope there isn't any hangover cuz they gotta get their shit in order quick because march is going to determine not only their season / title-aspirations, but also the FA cup..... tho you know since this vs everton FA cup match is right around going to buyern wenger's gonna tempt fate again by trotting out a partial b-side cuz you gotta field a rested up full strength game for the inevitable loss in munich, right? so yeah, i mean, i don't wanna be one of those fans going out of their way to curry favor with other supporters by slagging off his team.... but comeon this is buyern fucking munich and after starting out shooting a good portion of your wad, once that red came in the 37th minute..... i mean it was only a matter of how bad it was, and well, especially if we end up seeing a prodigious arsenal result in munich next month, you could do worse than being down 0-2 / 2-away-goals-conceded given the circumstances of what's going on. |

Weren't they in a similar situation last year going to Munich? They ended up losing, of course, but they made it scary for Bayern. I always liked it when Liverpool went out of these cups early if they were still in the running for the league or the CL. The cups are bullshit, especially the League Cup. I get that the FA Cup still has some old(e) Eng-guh-lund appeal. It's been around forever; before continental tournaments became worldwide billion dollar monetized events. |

Here are the eight clubs that qualified for Friday's UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal Draw Athletico Madrid Bayern Munich PSG Barcalona CHELSEA Real Madrid Borussia Dortmund Manchester United Since I was right when Chelsea was drawn with Galatasary in the last round. I'm gonna say Mourinho gets to face Real Madrid in the next round. Won't be good news for the Blues. |
