MLS took over the team and sold them to an undisclosed investment group for $100 million dollars.

Part of the agreement is for the team to suspend operations for at least two years to rebuild the team, which will include a new name.

Good.

MLS should be contracting though. Not expanding. Chivas was a good place to start.

Like four times too much money.

Like every pro team in LA.

MLS doesn't need to contract, but they also don't need a shitty second team in LA no one cares about. The continued push to get Liga MX fans needs to stop though. Yeah, you may have gotten a few when Blanco was in Chicago, but that's offset by the giant sucking waste that was Rafa Marquez in NY.

MLS will soon announce the owners of its new team in Los Angeles that will replace Chivas USA, and the ownership group that’s almost certain to land the team includes Henry Nguyen, Peter Guber, Vincent Tan and Tom Penn, SI.com has learned.

Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American venture capitalist who recently brought the first McDonald’s franchise to Vietnam. Guber is a Hollywood producer and co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Golden State Warriors. Tan is the flamboyant Malaysian owner of Cardiff City, which played in the Premier League last season. And Penn is a former NBA executive and analytics expert who has worked at ESPN.

Those are some heavy hitters. Too bad Vincent Tan is nuts.

This franchise was a goddamn joke. Just a dumping ground for the shite from the Mexican Chivas.

BTW, Blanco is still playing. And he'd likely still be the Fire's best player if they signed him today.

Wasn't this the team that didn't want Americans of any color on the team?

I think Magee is probably better than him now.

KD - I was thinking the same thing about Vincent Tan and I agree with you. The man is cukoo for cocoo puffs crazy.

I also think MLS needs to get their own house in order before adding new teams. NYCFC and Orlando City FC are coming in next year. Thr Miami Beckham's don't have a stadium deal in place.

Atlanta, Las Vegas and San Antonio all want to build soccer stadiums to get an MLS. Sacramento wants to turn their USL Pro team into a MLS team.

My question is how many teams are too many?

It's not like the quality of play is so exceptional they need to worry about watering it down.

Red Bull supposedly want out of MLS too. While that's not ideal, at least we won't have a team named Red Bull.
