They are going to wear the patch all year long! Why? Rickett's just "play's up" to the lowest common denominator of Cubs fans.....of which there are a lot. Just give Santo his day...market it...and move on! NOOOOoo...they have to wear an asinine patch all year long just to piss me off. :x

The patch is alright with me. If Harry and Brickhouse got one then Santo definitely deserves one since he'd been with the organization for what? 50 years?

Besides I believe most sports teams honor players and commentators who have passed away before or during the season with a patch and day. No need to make a fuss about it :roll:

The patch isn't uncommon. The Phillies had "HK" on their uniforms last year. I would think the Mariners will have something for Dave Niehaus (sp?) on their uniforms. The Cubs put 'Hey Hey' on the foulpole. When Hawk passes, the Sox will probably have a Hawk patch. The bulls had black band for Redd Kerr, and did something when Norm VanLier passed too.

Thats not marketing. Thats just paying respect to a guy (and his kin) who was a member of the Cubs family for many many years.

There's a ton of things you can bash Rickets for, this shouldn't be one of them.
