ESPN.com reports: Alfonso Soriano's mother, Andrea, died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday night in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, the Cubs outfielder told ESPNdeportes.com.

"Mom was fine, happy and healthy," Soriano said. "Even last week I took her to Disney World in Orlando and she was super excited. It was her first time at Disney."

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at the Quisqueya community of San Pedro de Macoris.
