i saw the hunter season 1 in the clearance DVD bin at jewel for like $4. call it a hunch, but that price is right in your entertainment budget's wheelhouse, not to mention it'd be symbolic that someone of your ilk and caliber would gravitate towards the great clearance bin of life, espeically being a cubs fan.

Hunter was ok. I would actually recommend this guy from the 80's

Actually I like Ted Danson. He was only ok on Cheers. He has actually
had a really good role on the HBO series Bored To Death as a pot smoking
executive. Underated show.

He's awesome on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Some of Larry's best arguments are with Ted Danson.

Yeah, he was good on that as well with his real wife Mary Steenburgen (sp).
Check out Bored to Death, I think you might like it. Also has Zach Galifinakis (sp)
in it and some good guest cameos. Kind of a "smart" comedy with not a ton of
laugh out loud moments unless you get the humor but a good show.

I remember "Hunter" back in the '80s from the mind of Stephen J. Cannell. Moment of silence please for Stephen. Thank you. I know it had a long shelf life on NBC from 1984-1991. Not only was Fred Dryer tough as the title character, but it also introduced audiences to Stepfanie Kramer as Hunter's partner, DeeDee McCall. Kramer left the series after 6 seasons back in 1990 to pursue other opportunities in the biz.

Producers replaced Kramer with two actresses for the 7th and final season, but viewers tuned out in droves. One of the actresses, Darlanne Fluegel, was brought in to play Officer Joanne Molenski, for the start of the 7th season. She had creative issues behind the scenes with Dryer and her character was killed off midway through that season. Lauren Lane, best known for her work on "The Nanny", was brought in for the second half of the final season as a former girlfriend of Hunter's, Sgt. Chris Novak. That, plus a much-publicized contract dispute between Hunter and Cannell's production company eventually led to NBC pulling the plug on the cop show in 1991.

Yes, he has been great both on Curb and on Bored to Death. He was also terrific as the villain on season 1 of Damages, which is definitely worth renting if you're not familiar with it. Subsequent seasons (mostly without Danson) aren't as strong.

I was a fan of the show too, probably the first show I really followed. I think it was late 90's, but the did have a movie about Hunter where he had to catch some guy that killed his fiance.

Another vote for Bored to Death. I rented Season 1 on DVD and really enjoyed it -- looking forward to seeing Season 2. Jason Schwartzman's hair kind of bother's me, though...to floppy.

Fred Dryer was considered for the role of Sam Malone that eventually went to Danson. It's kind of interesting to know who was up for well-known roles that eventually went to someone else.
