Very interesting little rant here from Mac about his industry and other workplaces in general. I'm wondering where this all sparked from for him to talk about this.

Bristol telling L. Justin that he needs to keep Seanny-cakes?

I'm wondering the same thing.

Not quite sure what Shakey and Bobby Skafish have to do with the lousy morale at AM1000.

Sounds like one of his bosses is being a dick and he's ffrustrated with the entire indutry....

Who knows? I really don't think this has anything to do with Sean. I think it has to do with something negative Mac heard at his place or at the Score.

I think I figured it out - Mac has hinted on numerous occasions when they have veered off sports that they can't spend much time on that stuff. I guess it isn't an L. Justin edict, but from the programmers in Connecticut.

Ha, now how interesting is that. Now here he is doing two air segments on something not sports related!

I think you're right. There was a lot of rumbling. mumbling about having to talk '85 Bears. Maybe that's where this all stems from.

The Icy Jim Pastor threatening the fellas with suspensions?

I always thought the suspension thing was stupid. Great way to drive listeners away. Check the last book to see how well suspending Mac 2-3 weeks worked out.

Maybe the mothership has told them they aren't happy about their ratings slipping?

Dan's treading on dangerous ground with bringing this to the air..The last thing you want to do is get days off during a Superbowl week .

He wears his heart on his sleave but we know the GM is a tool over there .

I think it's quite simple with ESPN 1000 right now.

If indeed they CARE about the listeners, they'd whack Sean Salisbury and hire Tom Waddle.

If they want to continue the ESPNification of the station, Salisbury stays - and the listenership continues to decline.

Somebody that isn't high on the pay scale, but works their ass off that has the utmost respect from Mac, probably got just crapped on or something.

Everyone has a boss...and everyone's boss can be a pain in the ass, even the good ones.

My thought, there is some kind of shaddy crap going on over there with the producers. Mac has always stuck up for these guys--he used to be one. I know it pains someone like Mac to see these guys work their tails off, make peanuts, and get dicked over my upper management. In some ways, I am sure he is pissed that a douche like Sean Salisberry gets to be on the air in daytime slot when guys like Silverman and Carmen are relegated to night-time slots whenever the UIC Flames dont have a game. It happens in every line of work. But, I do not think that is really what he is talking about. It sounds like a member of the MJH staff got bitched out by the suits this week for something stuipd. It is a really tough business. I thought about getting in it when I was younger..the more I find out about it, the more I am glad I didn't do it. For every Mac, there are about 20 guys that work in the biz for a handfull of years and end up giving up or guys that for some reason are declared unhireable. I can not understand why a guy like the Grobber is not on in Chicago, same thing with the XRT guy that Mac mentioned. Well..I am done with my rant...We all hear ya Mac...

i think it has something to do with all of the Anti-Uncle Rico talk....
Justin saw (and heard) it firsthand by a few of us at Shoeless Joes...
I know that hawkeye and I both had his ear for a bit.

Mac--I appreciate the passions and talents you bring to your job and to the show, but please! Why in the world should I be interested in what you're talking about right now? This is inside, behind-the-scenes stuff that I don't know nor care a lot about. When I go into a restaurant for a burger, I want my hamburger, not to have to sit in on an employee-management gripe session and hear about all their internal meetings and policies regarding the waiters and dishwashers, etc. Give me my hamburger and work out your own employment issues. You say it wasn't a particularly joyous week and then you proceed to do a totally joyless half-hour-plus on employee relations stuff. Take it to your Human Resources department. Sometimes I think you're your own worst enemy with your need to take EVERYTHING public. Hope you recapture some of the "joy" for Super Bowl week next week.

Mac--Thank you for acknowledging my post on the air, but with all due respect, I must say, I am a CONSUMER of your radio show much as I am a consumer of a Whopper. I'm interested in the quality of the final product that is delivered to me, not necessarily all the trials and travails that the employees go through behind the scenes to produce the product for me.

we take a 1/4 lb. of USDA beef....run it through our grill conveyor....apply lettuce, onion, tomatos, ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles...top it with a seeded bun...we make it your way for you....the consumer.

No, actually, I think Mac is quite sincere in what he's saying, I'm just not that interested. The Bears are in the Super Bowl, the Bulls beat Dallas last night, spring training is getting closer, and I'm sorry, but I'm not totally into some slight that Mac feels he or his producers or whoever suffered in some meeting.

It sure beats listening to:

The first two black head coaches in the Super Bowl talk
    85 Bear talk
    Baseball talk
    Bulls talk
    Blackhawks talk
An replay of the Dent interview

.....it was a quick little diversion - lighten up... it's feel good friday

Some people DO care about the behind the scenes stuff. If you go to BK once a month and get a whopper, you probably don't care about what's happening in the back room. However, if you go to the same corner tavern every day after work, you might be more concerned. I think a lot of people (especially those that frequent this board) care a lot about what management is saying and want to be in the know.

managers and management can suck-- anywhere. when i managed a papa johns ( i know, you're happy for me) i dealt with that micro management crap from the suits day in and day out. i didnt run my store like that though. i always felt that as long as everything that needs to be done that day got done and got done right, i really didnt care what else happened (within reason of course).

i know thats a lot different than radio or dicks on cellphone cameras, but you know what i mean..
