Since 1985 I have been invited to many Super Bowl parties and usually have attended as I like to watch the game. I bet on the game, I got squares and so on, but it's not my team, so watching every play is not critical.

Usually we are at someones house, the wives and Girlfriends hush everyone to watch the commercials, because one of them always knows a friend of a cousin of some guy who did something with the commercial.

That's all fine. They can gab, little kids can fight, wives can bitch about needing to go home because junior is just crabby today.

That's all fine if the Broncos are playing the Giants!

BUT THIS IS THE BEAR! Gotta WATCH the Game! Gotta Break it down! Gotta Yell at the Tv and call the Blitz so Rex can hear it! Gotta call BALL BALL when free! Need to High Five!

Heard 2 different conversations today from female angles about their guys not going to 1. Sister in Laws and 2. Jamies House (Have no idea who Jamie is)

I think a revolt might need to be made and repurcussions paid later.

A bar is defidently out for me. Big Fan if you hang with buddies it's got to be guys who love the Bears and the wives and/or girlfriends can't be there. I know for some it's impossible to tell their girl to take a hyke. But it's got to be done. Girl friends are more likely to be fine for obvious reasons. Hell, some really love the Bears and will be on their best behavior. Depends on what you have obviously.

You're right. This is a game that you need to have full attention. Plus you have to consider a loss (god forbid). That and alchohal could be dangerous. Or if they're just down and the wife is bitching about getting home and what not. Nobody needs that for a Bears Super Bowl. Good luck.

I got one guy (Mr. Wolves) who purchased a new 46inch LCD and I think his wife assumed in some way that a 46 inch LCD was going to get the guys flocking to their house to watch the Super Bowl.

I think he actually thought that too. Considering I have a 56 inch Plasma HD, what the hell do I need to go his house?

That said, FOBF, is my number 1 guy without the Testies to make the move, as I am pretty sure he used the Super Bowl "Party" as an excuse to pull the trigger on the New TV.

I'd rather watch the game on a 10 inch b&w TV with a fuzzy picture than be at a party this year. You know you will hear

I just watch for the commercials.
I don't get it. With ? after ? after ? about rules etc.
I'm rooting for the Colts. I love Peyton Manning. Who are the other players on the team?
I can't wait to see the halftime show.

And some chick will be overly concerned about her $20 square winning and another will yap at her date for driking too much. No thank you. Keep it.

See Spaulding, I don't mind all of that stuff on regular Super Bowls. But not this year. And beleive me I know there are alot of women who care alot and know alot. Some of the women in my family care alot. I know all of the bars in Chicago will be packed but that's just not for me.

You can't even invite the casual dude from work who just wants to be there for the party and doesn't love the Bears. This is not a time to discuss work problems, relationship problems, or world affairs. I'll have none of that with my group. We're only talking about the game. But they all want the same as me. I'll be geared in as soon as ESPN starts it's pre game with the Score, ESPN 1000, and WBBM on as well.

I'm with you Beardown except I have a hard time with the parties when the beloved are not involved. This year all the SB party BS is unacceptable.

I will be watching alone, in my home office, behind my desk, in front of my old 27 inch TV. Just like I did against the Saints.
I will also be enjoying beef ribs, smothered in tricked up tomato sauce with rigatoni pasta. Just like I did for the Saints game.
I will also be a basket case by kickoff.

For those of you thinking of throwing something to smoke on the grill/smoker. They are predicting a high of 20 next Sunday.

That might negate some plans for doing a slow cooked brisket. Hrm, unless I can bring the grill up to my top deck.....

What do I go if I have a shitty 27-incher circa mid-90s?

http://www.abtelectronics.com/product/22925.html - to me it is a big upgrade over 27" without spending a ton of money on a tv and fancy cable service.

As for the SB guest list, same for me as what others have said. No yakking wives (or husbands) who only are interested in the commercials. By my count I went to or watched Bears this year with 16 different people. Aside from my MIL (gotta be nice to her - she watches our kids when we travel) no one outside the 16 was even considered. Once they made that cut then the second baseline qualifier was knowing the fight song words.

And while I will normally bbq in any weather, I will have none of that for this game. It will be crock-pot stuff so I don't miss anything.

And Mrs. Retard (she actually watches and gets it) and I agreed - no drinking until 5pm that day. We need to have our wits about us so we can warn Rex of impending blitzes, decipher Peyton's hystronics for the defense, and properly cousel Hester when he does something stupid, like run backwards.

Now THAT'S the spirit!

I will again be a nervous wreck, without a good night's rest the night before. Anticipation . . .

Back on topic - I know girls and guys with whom I wouldn't want to watch the Super Bowl.

Much like a vacation, there is a very important process in selecting co-watchers and where to watch the big game. It's a personal preference, not to be taken lightly. This is crunch time, so choose wisely.

And do not be shy in invoking the universal phrase "GAME ON."

I've declined all party invitations. Just me, the wife, Lou Malnatti, some Vurdi Turdis, and some celebratory sex after the game. BEARSS!

The wives and kids are all coming to my house to enjoy Caillou, Bob the Builder, etc in 27" standard def wonderment.

The guys and I are headed to a buddy's house for uninterrupted, 50" Hi Def, game-watching, beer-drinking fun. As someone else has noted, we also have a no drinking rule in place, but it's only in effect until 4:00.

did the same thing for the white sox...except then i wasnt as bright. had a plane ticket booked that would have put me in town for games 5-7. but of course, the bastards had to sweep. so after geoff blum hit his HR, i started workin the phones. cancelled the original trip, booked a one way home, then took greyhound back after the rally parade.

i know, you're happy for me.

"To Mr. Reason on the occasion of his 1000th Post"

Mr. Reason declines to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking. Mr. Reason refuses to accept this. He believes that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, Mr. Reason's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. Mr. Reason's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.

Faulkner, Stoneroses you shouldn't have. I blush with humility.
You are a good man Stoneroses, even though you are too liberal to suit me.

Seems that a vast majority of the guys who die hards are playing it smart. Watching the game for real!

No parties, just diehards

Spot on Spaulding - I got in a "conversation" with the missus today because we've been invited to the neighbors annual party and I don't want to be in with the casual crowd despite his awesome big screen projector. I set up the laptop outside using the slingbox to watch the Seattle and Saints game just to get the feel of being at Soldier Field. I may allow myself inside the heated garage for the big game.

I'll be having a party, but most of the peeps that will be at the crib are fairly knowledgeable so it shouldn't be too horrendous. Plus, there's no reason to go out to a bar when Comcast is garnishing half my paycheck so I can have Hi Def. Having the DVR at one's disposal to bypass a lot of the bullshit is a nice thing also.
