So that brings up success--as if individual success in a game where there are 53 participants on a team can even remotely be used as a measuring stick. Despite that, Denver came very close to making the playoffs those years. And Cutler's numbers in Denver speak volumes. Those were numbers put up in a very similar situation. Front office issues, below average blocking, no running game, and no defense. Surely Cutler was responsible for all of those things...
The talk in Denver, because I saw and heard it, was about a QB who could be the best in the league once that team sorted out it's significant issues.
So he comes to Chicago where he at least is on a team with a good defense (this year), but the worst line in the NFL (and by numbers over the last two years, one of the worst ever), two coordinators in two years, and a staff overall, that didn't play into what made Cutler successful behind a below average line in Denver, no actual #1 or #2 WR, a spotty running game (mostly due to that bad line), and completely unrealistic expectations from the fan base.
This kid was never given a fair shake. And it is beyond absurd that people can know all of the above, but still expect more than he has given. I think the numbers he has put up overall, are amazing considering how bad of a franchise this is from the inside out.
Where is the criticism for Forte? This is a completely different running back in the second half. Things that had nothing to do with 'improved' line play.
The impression I get is that this is a group of players that do a lot of tongue biting. I really think this is a franchise that exudes a feeling of ineptitude, and it is contagious at times.
