ha, yeah, John McDonough is simply the best when it comes to sports marketing--Blackhawks attendance didn't really rebound/take off til after he got the NHL to have the Winter Classic at Wrigley; which made no sense at the time they announced it (Soldier Field made more sense in every way), but in retrospect that was the tipping point for converting Cubs fans to Blackhawk fans.

I can understand that back in the '80's McDonough had to pioneer the off-season convention in MLB (Cubs were the first team to ever have one) but what the hell was wrong with the NHL that no franchise had such an off-season gathering prior to McDonough doing it for the Blackhawks 2 years back.
