To hell with the snow, let me rankle WS fans.
Let's compare starting lineups as it looks right now:
===================
Catcher - Geovany Soto-Pierzynski
First Base - Carlos Pena-Konerko
Second - Blake DeWitt-Beckham
Short - Starlin Castro-Ramirez
Third - Aramis Ramirez-Morel/Vizquel/Teahen
Left - Alfonso Soriano-Pierre
Center - Marlon Byrd-Rios
Right - Tyler Colvin-Quentin

DH: Adam Dunn

I say the Cubs win 6 out of 8 everyday positions: catcher, second base,SS,3rd,LF,RF
The Sox might have a toss-up at 2nd & RF,but I prefer Dewitt & Colvin.
I'll sit down and sip another gallon of Kool-Aid.

You going to have to pencil in Fuk right next to Colvin as he is still fucking there and they are platooning them.

Here is the danny bernstein WCUB all-city team (also endorsed by Phil Rogers):

Catcher - Geovany Soto: This guy is a great hitter with power. A.J. is A.J. Edge Soto.
First Base - Carlos Pena: Konerko figures to fade. Have to give Pena the edge. Off year in '10 but he figures to get back to 130 OPS+ in Wrigley.
Second - Blake DeWitt-Beckham: toss up. Two unproven players
Short - Starlin Castro: One of the best young players I've ever seen
Third - Aramis Ramirez: Proven slugger, should be closer to his norms this year.
Left - Alfonso Soriano: Bad at baseball, but better than Juan Pierre.
Center - Marlon Byrd: was arguably the best player in the city last season. Tough choice.
Right - Tyler Colvin-Quentin: Another toss up. Two big ifs

Please, let's not look at August. I'm just hoping for some nice March weather right about now.
So when does B-B Richard get a day?

i don't think that will be a straight platoon there. i do believe that most of the outfielders and their positions will be interchangeable, but two lefties in a straight platoon doesn't make any sense.

Right after Harry "Cupcake" Chappas, the tiniest shortstop.

Augie Ojeda is on the non-roster invitee list for 2011 for the Cubs. He must be 48 by now.

I'd agree with most of that. Castro might be better than Alexei and A.J. is better than Soto in a lot of ways that are important for a catcher. Soto is a disaster defensively. Pierzynski isn't going to throw many guys out, but besides that he's an excellent backstop. For most positions I'd say Soto's offense would more than make up for any defensive shortcomings. Catcher may be an exception.

Soto is a disaster defensively? Not sure I would go that far. Granted he is not a Molina, but I don't think he is a disaster. I would say that Soto is better than AJ in 2 out of the 3 categories. Soto is better offensively and in throwing out runners, and AJ is better at calling a game. So I would have to take Soto overall.

Alexei and Castro is an interesting one. I would say that in the long run Castro will be better, but as of right now it is a toss up. Chicago is blessed to have 2 really solid SS's 1 of which is a potentially great SS.

Well, I would suggest that if you have a 125 OPS+ catcher and he's having difficulty beating out Koyie Hill, there's a reason for it.

Is there a catcher controversy I don't know about? Trouble beating out Koyie?

How many games do you think they each caught last year? I don't even have to look it up to know it's about a 100/70 split. To me if your catchers are Hill and a guy who is better than Pierzynski, the better guy has to catch 125-130 games. The problems with Soto behind the plate are obvious and well-known. You don't sit a guy who slugged the way he did last year as much as they did if that isn't the case.

100% correct. That is the essence right there.

Pierzynski has intangibles, yes, but he's going into his age 34 season, at which point he's sure to lose a lot of tangibles.

that was an old retard putting hill in over soto..hence he was run out of town...soto was and is and will always be superior to hill.

Lou didn't give a damn. Soto is average defensively and quite a better hitter. Lou's borderline platoon of the catchers was inexcusable. Once Quade took over, Soto was getting 90% of the starts.

Wasn't Soto on the DL for a bit last year too and thats when the 4 finger bandit took over?

Indeed. I edited my post and forgot to re-include that thought. Soto will start 125+ games this year health provided.

Agreed. Plus Soto isn't exactly high up on the list of Cubs problems. Would be nice to see ARAM decide to hit over .230 sometime before July this year. I am hoping that he is extra motivated to get one last big contract somewhere and has a good year.

Who cares how the Wsox and Cubs lineups compare to each other? How do the lineups compare to the others in their own division and league should be the concern.

Just as Cowley today states this is a Sox town now. Who cares? Is he 10? If you are a Cubs fan great, if you are a Sox fan great.
