I'm sure Texas would be happy to bring back Soriano.

Rogers is a complete moron. But he is not alone. Did you catch the blurb at the end of the article?

Quote:
Potential stunner: The St. Louis Post Dispatch's Jeff Gordon has a theory that's worth considering. He believes that the Royals — of all teams — would be a likely destination for Albert Pujols if he reaches free agency.

Consider the factors.

Kansas City, where Pujols attended Maple Woods Community College, is a second home for him and his wife, Dee Dee. The Royals appear to have such a deep stable of elite prospects they could mature into a version of the 2008-10 Rays by 2012 or '13, a young team capable of a sustained run. And they have such a stripped-down payroll they could give Pujols $30 million a year without straining before at least 2015, when guys like Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Montgomery and Aaron Crow could be becoming big-ticket items.

The clock continues to tick loudly on Pujols' deadline for the Cardinals to sign him to a contract extension. He could report to Jupiter, Fla., as early as Wednesday and has said he won't negotiate a contract after he has started his spring training. That could change, but it appears the Cardinals waited too long to try to lock up baseball's best hitter.

If Phil Rogers stopped writing, I'd have to look harder for the "dumbest thing written".

Soriano for Young? It's almost laughable to think that Texas would even consider it. Which is then topped by "Pujols to K.C.".

I think that Rogers hip new glasses are putting undue pressure on his temples which is leading to these dipshit articles he consistently churns out.

Yeah, I nearly had a bonafide spit-take when I read about Jim Hendry using his wits and guile to get Texas to take Alfonso Soriano back. Remember guys, his .818 OPS is better than all-but-four AL teams got out of the DH position.

Michael Young is clearly the man without a position in Texas these days, and yeah he's technically overpaid, but he's focused on hitting the longball these last two seasons and given you flashes of 04-05, when he was in his prime. Phil started with using Marlon Byrd as the centerpiece of a possible Cubs trade for Young, but then ventured into insanity with the Soriano stuff.

Doesn't he realize that Texas has a crowded OF already? Even without Young you've still got Hamilton, Cruz, Borbon, and David Murphy. Sure the latter is ~28 and doesn't bowl you over with his numbers, but he's the epitome of an excellent 4th outfielder. When Hamilton and/or Cruz have their annual DL trips he can step in and give you some above-replacement-level OF. If Texas wanted a no-field outfielder for DH, they could have re-signed Vladimir Guerrero, who despite a horrible stretch from Mid-July to Mid-September still managed to pull .300/29/115 out of his ass... for ~$5mil. Vlad ended up signing for one year and 8 million with the Orioles, who are seemingly on the virge of ending the Felix Pie era in Baltimore.

I have no idea what the hell Texas is doing, as I think they're very likely going to rue the day they caved to Boras/Beltre's salary demands and I also think Napoli is due to regress within a year or two... and they're basically taking the face of their franchise and saying "thanks for all the hits and the infield versatility... now get the fuck out of here"

Long story short: Texas is dealing from a position of strength with Michael Young. 3/48 sucks, but if they toss some money in someone will take him. If you want to jump on Hendry for not dumping off Soriano's salary, look at the Angels, who took on Vernon Wells' horrible money (~4/86) when he has production that's actually been LESSER than Soriano's over the last 3-4 years.
