I don't think they're gonna read my HATER WEDNESDAY text tonight (I'm too chickenshit to call in, cuz I gotta go to some sporstalk ciphers and get my swag up before I step up to the big leagues) so I'mma reiterate it here.

I had to hate on HARD BAKE tonight. He was on during the last segment of the 8pm hour and he and Laurence were talkin about some top basketball players by grade level list from the late 80s or something... when they got to the younger kids, they were all unknown. One kid was named Barnabus James from LA, which caused HARD BAKE to chuckle as he said "I wonder if he's a Blood or a Crip now?" immediately followed by some way-too-comfortable racist laughing-at-your-own-joke (BAKE THAT!). Ever the consummate professional, Laurence chimed in with some laughter in order to make his guest feel at home.

Comeon HARD BAKE, we know when you're in the presence of the OG street legend SHAKE THAT it's hard to come off looking like a rugged man... I know that not only your masculinity but also your blackness is on the line, because when you're that intimately juxtaposed with Laurence you have to really come with it in order to save face.... but like, real talk here, as a white kid who grew up in the suburbs that moment took me back to uncomfortable memories of sitting in backyards at family barbeques where the grown-ups got a few in them and started talking about "the brothers" and the n-words. They'd always laugh at their own jokes in order to start up the group laughter, as if they're saying "IT'S OK TO LAUGH, EVERYONE, YOU'RE AMONGST FRIENDS HERE!"

for that, i'm hatin on BAKE THAT! tonight.

I gotta break kayfabe and play the IRL heel here, but as I've likely said ~10 odd times in SHAKE THAT threads I absolutely abhor Laurence's vocal inflection. When tonight's show started up and he was giving us some groundbreaking revelations on the game of football (i.e. the quarterback matters) he spoke with his usual inflection, which is that of talking to children.

Laurence's inflection always gives me the mental image of him sitting in front of a class of kindergarteners reading a story. It's like the way he says "REEEEEALLY GOOD" and stresses the words and whatnot... clearly since he's the only "prime time" weekday solo host, it's like he takes it upon himself to go out of his way to be extra emotive with his words, and the result is it's like I'm being read a story about a knight slaying a mythical dragon en route to saving a princess.

It was all an act? Fuck you, pal... :(

During transition today, Larry was making a point about how bad West Virginia is, and he said, "when your escape is to go to Pittsburgh..." (getting ready to imply that West Virginia must be really bad, because Pittsburgh is bad and if that's your escape you know you live somewhere real bad) and Dan interrupted him by saying "I like Pittsburgh" and Larry, without missing a beat says "I like Pittsburgh too".

Really, Larry, you were just getting ready to rip on Pittsburgh to emphasize your point about how bad West Virginia is...get a fucking spine asshole.

Oh god. That was a hot pile of strobe-lit crap, and that's coming from someone who holds Funeral quite dear.

Was his decision to not to do the Valentine's Day thing by choice or circumstance?

This blatant promotional announcement...Right after that idiotic, pointless preview LoHo has with CBS2's Ryan Baker, complete with the pathetic cough remix, after Ranger's 9p "Scoreboard Update", this is the last "People's Hour" for the next week or so. LoHo's going to Costa Rica this weekend...

Matt Abbatacola, better known as "Drinky", who follows LoHo come 10p tonight, pinch hits for Laurence tomorrow at 6p LIVE from the GM Display at the Chicago Auto Show. According to the 670thescore.com schedule, Hub Arkush builds a bridge to another DePaul loss at Providence Thursday, and Jason Goff covers the tabs Friday at 6p.

Sir Larry yesterday told us that after going to spring training he fell in love with Arizona so much that he bought a condo down there. Larry is making that kind of coin to support two homes (I have a feeling a little more digging would find that he and mommy bought the condo together)? What kind of single person buys vacation property?

I heard him mention "visiting his place in Arizona" a few months ago when the topic of vacation came up. He's an interesting dude...

Foreclosure rates there are astronomical, so I imagine a one-bedroom unit comes pretty cheap.

Like dolphin said, it's a bit....different for a single person to purchase vacation property. Maybe he got tired of taking his lady friends from Arizona to his hotel room. Wanted them to feel a special. Makes sense, I guess...

Larry bought his mom a place in Sun City. He has to sneak past the Age Police to stay in it.

You missed some pretty fantastic fake laughs and he stayed to transtioin with Joe and Connor (which was mostly about the callers and texters questioning larry's racial motivations.)

Also...he's now using the BAAABY to describe a hot woman...waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
