Challenge #15Racing season is finally here -- time for the Daytona 500! You'll pick five different drivers. They'll run the race and then finish (hopefully no rainout!) The worst two finishes will be discarded, and your points will be determined by adding up your top three finshers. So with this hypothetical entry with a hypothetical result:
Driver A: Jeff Gordon finishes 11th
Driver B: Dale Jr. finishes 5th
Driver C: Jimmie Johnson finishes 30th
Driver D: Kasey Kahne finishes 19th
Driver E: Mark Martin finishes 22nd
We would discard the results for Johnson and Martin, and add up the other results for a total score of 35.
The low score for this challenge wins immunity. If you designate a driver that does not start the race, your score will be penalized by an additional thirty points per non-starter.
But wait one second; it can't be that easy. We'll have to add special bonuses for each car, and one other overall wrinkle. These bonuses apply if the driver finishes in your top three or not.
Driver A: Your score will be decreased by two points if this driver finishes on the lead lap.
Driver B: Your score will be decreased by three points if this driver leads a lap at any point during the race.
Driver C: Your score will be decreased by four points if this driver finishes ten spots or more better than where he started. For instance, if Waltrip starts 38th and finishes 25th, your final score will be decreased by four points.
Driver D: Your score will be decreased by five points if this driver does not finish the race.
Driver E: Your score will be decreased by six points if this driver leads the most laps.
The overall wrinkle is that your score will be
increased by one point for each other CSFMB Survivor submission that also includes your drivers. So in the above example, if there were five other people submitting Gordon, and three others submitting Kahne, while you were the only one submitting Johnson, Dale, and Martin, then that would be an additional 8 points added to your score.
Now for the bonuses. The top three finishers in the NCAA Challenge #14 were Douchebag, Hank, and sjboyd. With your submission, please choose one of these advantages:
- Extra Man: Pick a sixth driver. That driver is not eligible for any driver specific bonuses and will not be subject to the increase total if other Survivor contestants submit him. He will count towards their penalties, however. For example, if you pick Newman, and three other players have Newman, they will have their scores increased by an additional point, but your score will remain unchanged. If you go this route, you will have your worst three drivers finishes discarded, and the best three will count. If you do not designate an option with your entry, this option will be selected and your extra driver will be Montoya.
- Pick A Winner: Along with your submission, nominate ten drivers. You can name drivers that you've already named to your team. If one of these ten drivers wins Daytona, your score will be decreased by ten points. These drivers do not add towards anyone's duplicate driver penalties.
- Head to Head: Challenge another non-bonus eligible CSFMB Survivor player to a head to head challenge. Both of you will pick a different driver. The loser will get a two and half point deduction while the winner will get a six and a half point deduction. The other CSFMB Survivor player must agree to the challenge in the thread, and both players must agree to the drivers assigned to each player. If either of the drivers fails to start, each Survivor player will have their score increased by ten points. Note that both Survivor opponents must survive the Challenge #14 elimination to do this.
