I've never been the biggest fan of Albini's music, but I respect his ethic and his ethics. The last time I saw him Shellac was opening up for the Stooges, I think at the Congress. Fuck, most of the crowd didn't even know who it was. Steve was his obstinate self though, and put on a good show.

One time in the late 80s or early 90s one of my crazy ass friends and I were stumbling all shitfaced and fucked up out of Club Dreamerz (where Nick's is now on Milwaukee). Albini was walking in and he said hello to us. My buddy was still carrying a rocks glass with ice in it for some reason and he hissed, "Fuck you, Steve Albini!" and threw the ice in his face. Steve just said, "What the fuck, Bill!" The next day I asked Bill why he did that. He said he didn't know. Good times.

It must not have pissed Steve off too much because a few years later he let Bill record an EP at his house. I think it came out on cassette only and it's definitely worth picking up if you can find a copy of it. I think it's called Rockin' Pharoah. It features a killer track called "Nashville Wedding" and one that I wrote part of called "Delta 88".

Nice find, Doug! But it doesn't look like Billy boy has touched that site in forever. I haven't talked to him for awhile. I never knew he put that thing out on a CD. Maybe I have some royalties coming. I think his guitar shop is on Western a couple doors away from the Empty Bottle. I'll have to stop in and see him one of these days. He doesn't drink anymore though, and that was one thing we always had in common.

Late to the party on this one, but it is pretty damn solid, as of now I don't think its better than The Suburbs, but I've only been listening for 2 days, so that could change pretty quickly...

Crosscheck, if you don't have Neon Bible yet I'd pick that up. I enjoy that one
much more than Funeral, although there are a few good tracks on that one as
well.

I have no idea why, but I have Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin'" stuck in my head. Probably because I saw Warren G's "Regulate" song which rips off his music bed on someone's facebook wall.

Probably should be in "Music stuck in head" thread, but I didn't feel like looking it up.

90's Power Pop from a Champaign guy.
Don't know what he's doing now, but damn his first 2 albums were fucking perfect!

Weird. Speaking of 90's Champaign-Urbana music, I was just dug this out recently.

Fuck yeah Sam and Douchebag. :D :D :D
Personally my favorite Cham-bana band was always Titanic Love Affair, with Hum coming in a close second place!

I'll reach out with an open hand and hope you don't give me back a fist. I generally appreciate your posts on music. Are you a fan of Menthol?

JORR,
I love the first Menthol record, and never got around to getting their 2nd album.
They had a song I found on Limewire or Kazaa years ago, I think it was called "John Hughes 2000" which was also great!
My hatchet is also buried!
:D

Yeah, I used to have the one with the mint green cover and the silver balls (I don't remember what it was called) on cassette. Great songs- "Stress Is Best", Bedheaded. Redeyed & Bewildered"! It's funny how scarce they are on the Internet. I've looked to download their stuff to no avail. I'm not an iTunes guy, maybe it can be found there.

And they had to rename the John Hughes 2000 song because Hughes threatened to sue them.
It's aptly called "A Bitter Fued" on this album, lolz.
