According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Andrew Cashner has landed a spot in the Cubs' rotation.
Cashner, 24, turned in a 2.05 ERA and 59/15 K/BB ratio across 57 innings between Double-A and Triple-A in 2010. He was shaky when called up to the big leagues, but the talent is there and he has the potential to make himself useful in deeper mixed leagues. His strikeout rates in the minor leagues have been decent. Carlos Silva is likely to be released to free up roster space.

Z/Dempster/Garza/Wells/Cashner is a pretty solid rotation. Not spectacular, but it''ll keep us in a lot of games.

Lotta money to pay Silva to not play. Why not send him to AAA

I guess Bernsie and his guy were wrong about Silva taking the 5th starter spot.

Awesome. While its a lot of money to eat its for the better of the team. Its one thing to suck and its quite another to have a shitty attitude and suck. I'm sure baltimore will take him anyways.

....and not to dwell on the addition by subtraction part of this story.....this is awesome for Cashner. I hope he kicks ass for years to come.

Now if only they can find a way to trade captain jeff morgan for anything this would be a great spring.

Braden Looper retired after the Cubs informed him that he didn't make the Opening Day roster.

Wasn't the last spot between Looper and Silva?

Bruce Miles just tweeted he thinks Silva made the 5th spot, with Cashner to the pen.

Mateo and Stevens still figure into mix with Silva as final decision goes into Saturday AM.

Maybe Cashner has it, but nothing will be announced until they know if they can/can't move Silva.

Has anyone asked Hendry why Gorzelany was dumped? That was dumb.
Also,Cub fans were booing DLee for hitting .245,wait until we see how truly pathetic a sub-200 BA is with the new 1st baseman. I would have rather seen Colvin at 1st and Brett Jackson in the OF.

terrible news

he is a reliever and a reliever only

he will blow out his arm in no time...he aint a starter...another move by the Bully to try and jerk his young players around

why is marshall not a starter and cashner is?

whats with all these relievers competing for starting? Stevens? bull!

i personally liked Casey Coleman and Thomas Diamond....to me, those 2 should be competing for it

fuck Silva's fatass

Andrew Cashner just does not impress me.

Maybe it's just my luck, but every time I see him pitch, he gets hit hard. I don't get the hype.

His fastball is straight, he appears to have no consistent breaking ball and his delivery has no deception.

I have read comparison between him and a young Kerry Wood because they throw hard and both are Texan, but to me there is no comparison.

Wood had a fastball that had some pop and electric breaking pitches, which I don't see in Cashner.

I hope I am wrong, but I get the feeling in late May or June we will read about the Cubs sending Cashner to AAA for to work on a few things while the Cubs bring up Coleman.
