This seems like a great hire for NIU. They got an emerging coach who made a lateral move because NIU was able to pony up big money. The program needed a shot in the arm and this may be it. The Chicago market is wide open to any local college team right now. It was a good idea to use some resources to make a run at it.

I got it wrong. This should be Bradley Braves Basketball. Same analysis.

NIU's hire is actually pretty good. They got Izzo assistant Mark Montgomery who was his lead recruiter in Detroit. He was able to go into Detroit and get three signees right away from the area.

Has NIU ever made the tournament ever?

They're not even competitive. The star of the team when I was there was in many of my marketing classes. I knew they were screwed if their star was a smart guy.

Yes, the last time was 95/95 when they won the Horizion tournie. They've never won a game in the tournament but been there 3 times more than NU.

It's been awhile since NIU has been in the NCAA Tournament. You have to go back to 1996 when they lost 74-73 to Texas Tech in the first round of the East Regional in Richmond, VA. The Huskies' men's team has been to the "Big Dance" 3 times lifetime in school history. They were there in 1982 & 1991, and also lost in Round 1. Their tourney record: 0-3.
