I would like an honest owner who says that the top talent earning big dollars need to perform in order for the team to perform. Instead we get an owner professing a "great" offseason essentially setting himself up to look like the clown that he is when the team struggles to even be mediocre. The defense is perhaps the worst in all of baseball and in this present era of Cubs baseball, the fans are not going to take it and the boos will rein down on this team and on everyone associated with it. You know damn well Mark Cuban would not accept this mediocrity but he was blackballed in favor of the bean counting debt ridden Ricketts.

This is going to be a long damn season in this forum isn't it?

The division looks pretty tough this year actually. The Brew, Cards and Reds are all possible over .500 playoff type teams. The worse division might be the AL West.

The fact that we are discussing the 4th starter should tell you this is a good pitching staff. Wells is more than solid for a 4th starter.

The Cubs don't have a guy who's going to post a 2.5-3 ERA, but I believe they have 4 guys who are capable of being 3.3-4.0 era which will put the team in a position to win a lot of games

dempster's only your ace because they're trying to take the pressure off of zambrano. after his adventurous season last year they want to give him a chance to start over... dempster had a nice year in... 2008? yeah. after that, he's a nice #2/#3 on a team.

obviously, zambrano's stats have gone down since 2006 to non-ace territory.... but he has ace stuff, he's just kind of mental and you accept that with him. i think getting rid of lou will be the best thing that's happened to zambrano, as he responded quite well to coming back to a lou-free team.

just clarifying your position. the line between "not bad" and "sucks" is razor thin. better not give up those extra 2 or 3 runs a season, or you could end up on the "you suck" side.
