Let's use 200ip.

90 earned runs= 4.05 and sucks
85 earned runs= 3.825 and not bad.

We will understand yours after Dusty finishes bulldozing the Reds pitching staff.

I haven't followed enough to give a meaningful prediction. My hope for the season is that come August/September, Northside_Dan, Darkside, Hank Scorpio et al still have enough interest in the season to start threads for each upcoming series. If that happens it means the Cub is still in the hunt and we have a competitive team.
Meaningful Cub Summer Baseball>Football Preseason.

Especially because the NFL is going to be locked out so this board is going to be full of Red Hot Chicago Fire talk come September

That's not an uncommon reaction among Cub fans and rightfully so. I'd be pissed too if my team's ex-manager built a winner in the same division. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the Cubs start being competitive with the Reds in the next several years.

Why is it primarily based on ownership and management? Did Ricketts hand out all of the dumb contracts over the past 5 years? Was Quade managing this club to back-to-back disappointing seasons? At least give those two people a chance before shitting on them. If you want to shit on the awful roster, go ahead. But neither of that is Ricketts' or Quade's fault.

At least the rest rooms & food is better now at Wrigley!

I'm not pissed, I pity you right now. You are feeling the same things I did about the Cubs back in 2004. It did not end well then and this wont end well now. It is a terrible feeling to watch a great young pitching staff get systematically destroyed.

And the Cubs will be competitive this year. They are winning the division.

the worst move ricketts made was letting hendry make off season moves and name the new manager. what is ricketts supposed to say? standard b.s. that most owners would say..that is why i did not listen to the interview .. i would rather have lee than pena....pena move makes zero sense, i would also rather move colvin to 1st or aram to 1st and bring up a young vitters. ricketts can fix this in october by firing hendry and bringing in a competent gm to handle everything.

I agree. But who is going to help Ricketts evaluate & hire a competent GM? Crane Kenney?

The Reds are good because of some excellent drafting and player moves. Dusty can only turn them into entitled veterans and broken arms.

I couldn't agree more. The Reds have done a TREMENDOUS job drafting.

In 2008 the Reds took Yonder Alonso with the 7th pick. The White Sox took Gordon Beckham with the 8th pick.

In 2010 the Reds took Yasmani Grandal with the 12th pick. The White Sox took Chris Sale with the 13th pick.

I hope this trend continues and the Sox have the choice after the Reds in 2012 (#30 overall).

I think the Cubs will win 89 games.

Dempster 15-9, Zambrano 15-10, Garza 16-9 and Wells 12-11 will combine to win 58 games.

Pena will finally give the Cubs a left handed power bat.... hit 30 HR and 90 RBI

Ramirez will hit 25 and 102

Castro 280 12 60

Soriano 26HR 82 RBI
Marmol 34 saves

Some of it is Cubbie kool aid, and some of its just a feeling.

Zambrano (for the last 8 years) and Dempster (for the last 3) have been above .500 pitchers, usually around 5 games above .500.

Garza is only a few games above .500, but coming out of the AL East with an ERA under 4 to the NL Central, i think he will have a good year.

If your top 3 pitchers are above .500, the team should be at least .500.

I think the bullpen will be solid.

Pena had a terrible batting average last year, but gotta believe he is due for a bounce back (at least .230)

And the rest of the division ranges from awful (Pirates) to ok (cards, reds, brewers). There is no team in the division which you look at and say, wow, how do the Cubs compete with them.

NSJ at least when Dusty was with the Cubs, he won a goddam playoff series. Remember, that glorious Braves series? Elmhurst Steve was there when Kerry Wood kicked that last second field goal to give the Cubs the win in game 6.

Maybe this year, IF the Reds make the playoffs, they can manage to win a game.

i think the reds will win the division, but don't see them winning a playoff series..the central is just too bad..the east and west will beat the piss out of the central teams, and the a.l . teams will really feast
