Castro did not cost them the game. The fact that the offense couldn't do what every other team seems to be able to do to one Ross Olendorf, beat the living hell out of him, is what lost them the game. This team is gonna struggle to score runs all year.
It is a poorly constructed lineup with too many strikeout and as Jimmy said, a lack of situational hitters.
I applaud Barney for putting the ball in play, hitting a sac fly to score Castro. Byrd and Soriano are unfamiliar with that concept.

So far,Quade looks like another push button manager. Where was Fukudome in the 9th? Pinch hit for Byrd. This season it might be better to put Baker at 1st and Barney at 2nd versus lefties. I like Pena but over the long haul,he will be a strikeout machine versus the lefties. This Cub team will go nowhere because the RH hitting is terrible except for ARam & Castro. Soto,Soriano & "Punch&Judy" Byrd will kill this team over 162 game schedule.

So the focus on Castro is even stronger. He has GOT to start improving defensively. I mean these throws are just stupid. Not sure you can say he'll learn not to do that. He should know that already.

He just turned 21. I have been watching baseball long enough to know that defensive sense can be the last thing to click.

He'll be fine.

Quade pinch hitting Reed Johnson against a RH pitcher in the ninth was a joke. Fukudome made perfect sense given his tendency to draw the base on balls. I guess that was to esoteric a concept for the great Mike Quade.

Sorry,I forgot about that gaf already. 3 games in,I have already questioned about 6 moves including starting the 9th with Marmol. I would have given Grabow or Marshall a shot at the 3 lefty hitters in a row. At least give them the 1st batter with Marmol in the BP. Marmol should not be an automatic due to his wildness issues.

No way I go with Grabow. He is wild as well. Possibly Marshall, but given how good Marmol looked Saturday, it's hard not to give him the ball to start the 9th.

Yeah,in most situations I would. I'm just saying,3 lefties in a row. At least have Marshall give it a shot once in a while. Maybe Hurdle PH for somebody with a RH hitter,then bring in Marmol. He sucked today,but cub hitting was terrible.

I don't know, Reason. Physical errors are one thing but poor judgement and bad baseball decisions are another. The kids got all the talent in the world but he can't keep making these mistakes that cost games.

He didn't cost them the game. Talk to me after this year about his fielding decisions. If I don't see improvements, then I'll be concerned.
