It is no surprise to this veteran observer that once again Harry's lips are firmly planted on another Chicago athlete's turd cutter. Top 20 player of all time ? Harry, this is absurd even for you.

I read his stats in the paper today and was shocked he was in the top 50 all time. Then I read he thought he would be a good coach (as opposed to a good dolphin) and I feel off my chair.

He can only coach about 46:30 of a game. Then he's off to the showers.

Hey Scottie,

Dominique Wilkins wants his Top 50 All-Time players spot you stole from him.

If we're only looking at offense, there's no way he's a top 50 player - he was a good scorer, and very good point forward, but his defense was excellent.

You guys have short memories on how good an all-around player Pippen was.

He is the all-time steals leader in NBA history for forwards and 5th overall.

He's also 41st in points scored and 23rd in assists in NBA history overall.

and don't forget that he could hit the boards as a SF:

32nd overall on the defensive glass and 63rd overall all time. Just taking a quick look at other SF's above him are names like Bird, Baylor, Bridges, DeBusschere, Big O.

I would also like to praise scottie.

Our minds are clouded by his lack of tippage and his last few years in the league w/ the rockets and with the bulls.

he WILL suck if he comes back....I have no doubt about that.

Dont forget that the bulls were a GREAT team those couple of years that Michael left....

I bought my first brand new car from his "Dodge Store." It lasted 2 months before it died.

Therefore, he's not top 50 material.

Is it the Andres Nocioni Dodge Store now?

But seriously folks, Scottie's game was a thing of beauty...he's def. Top 50 worthy.

I've got no problem with Pip being a Top 50 guy at the time the team was announced. David Robinson was the guy that stole the Human Highlight Reel's spot too btw.

Pippen is a more complete basketball player than both. Above average on both ends of the court, and he's got the championship rings too.

David Robinson not deserving? I think not. He was a great center for a long time.

To keep things in perspective. There was a nice discussion after the NBA named their Top 50 players of all time prior to the '96/97 season.

No Kobe, no Wade.... You figure out NOW who the Top 50 are. David Robinson isn't in mine. He never won spit until Tim Duncan arrived, who coincidentally.. isn't on the list.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Nate Archibald
Paul Arizin
Charles Barkley
Rick Barry
Elgin Baylor
Dave Bing
Larry Bird
Wilt Chamberlain
Bob Cousy

Dave Cowens
Billy Cunningham
Dave DeBusschere
Clyde Drexler
Julius Erving
Patrick Ewing
Walt Frazier
George Gervin
Hal Greer
John Havlicek

Elvin Hayes
Magic Johnson
Sam Jones
Michael Jordan
Jerry Lucas
Karl Malone
Moses Malone
Pete Maravich
Kevin McHale
George Mikan

Earl Monroe
Hakeem Olajuwon
Shaquille O'Neal
Robert Parish
Bob Pettit
Scottie Pippen
Willis Reed
Oscar Robertson
David Robinson
Bill Russell

Dolph Schayes
Bill Sharman
John Stockton
Isiah Thomas
Nate Thurmond
Wes Unseld
Bill Walton
Jerry West
Lenny Wilkens
James Worthy

Nothing like NBA talk on the MJH message board by some knucklehead that calls himself the Gridiron Assassin, yet doesn't know much Bears/Saints playoff trivia. ;)

While I agree with you that he doesnt now belong on the list of 50 greatest players, he did in 96. I was also waiting for the "he didnt win anything" commment. How much exactly did "The Human Highlight Reel" win? Just checking.

I hate the use of championships won to decide who should be on this list... by that argument Malone, Stockton, Maravich, Ewing should be marked down b/c they never won a championship. Then you think about people like Rodman, who won 5 championships, and wonder if he should be on the list due to being a great rebounder and a winner.

I think that championships won can be helpful but for the most part there are so many other factors to decide if you won.
and I might just be saying that because my favorite player on the list, Maravich, never won jack. (I only wish I was old enough to see him play live...I was 2 when he retired).

It's hard for us to comment on some of these old timers, because we never saw them play.

But Lebron, Iverson, Duncan, Kobe and Wade would probably belong.

shaq made that list too. i think pip deserves it much more than him. at least pippen hit most of his free throws.

Not true big boy. You drafted that center from Haiti by way of UVa. You traded for Pip.

I agree he was great. No one here has even mentioned that he played the point for a good amount of time with the Bulls. I still don't think he is among the 50 greatest ever. He was a complementary player.

that is enough for the moderator of this board to shut down all basketball talk.

ever seen shaq play 4-10 years ago? Impossible to guard, the greatest force ever in the paint. Dont forget that when 4 people came to guard him, 3 of his teammates were sittin right there wide open.

To the guy that said "basketball talk with the gridiron assassin in the mjh section" -- couldnt be more right.

Well we could talk Bears playoff history with Grid, but then that would probably be one of the shortest threads ever.

Not to mention how he and Paxson carried the offense in the second half of the game 5 clincher.

Most of the Scottie haters only seem to remember the bad attitude (1.8 seconds) and the belief that sometimes he didn't try as hard as he could've. I do agree that sometimes his efforts were lacking and his attitude was downright deplorable at times, but Scottie Pippen in his prime was easily one of the top 5 players in the league every year (circa 1991 - 1997).

I also believe he was much more than a Jordan sidekick. How many titles would Mike have won without Scottie here?

Simple, zero.

And do you really think that MJeff would have considered coming back in the first place if Krause had dealt Pippen off for Dan Fucking Majerle?
