Granted it's the Padres, I was still very pleased with this outing by Zambrano. After he pitched 5 good quality innings versus the Astros b4 going to absolute shit in the 6th, I was a bit worried that all remnants of August/September 2010 Zambrano had been vanquished.

As the game wore on, he seemed to be getting ahead of more hitters and avoiding those dreaded 3-2 counts. My uncle once told me that 75% of the time the first pitch on a 3-2 count results in a foul ball, and I'll be damned if I haven't watched that basically come true. With that in mind, getting to 3-2 just about every time is going to kill your pitch count and/or allow walks.

Zambrano still needs to perfect a wipeout pitch for when he's up 0-2 or 1-2. I'm sure all of us can muster up memories of Zambrano giving up HRs on 1-2 counts, but like, when he's going blah and walking people it seems like every time he's up 0-2 or 1-2 he misses way outside with a backdoor slider (to RHers, anyways) then he tries to nibble nibble nibble on the corners before having to throw some meat on 3-2, lest he add to his perennially high walk totals. Last night's Zambrano did a much better job of wiping out batters he got ahead of, as is evidenced by 10K, but this is also the vaunted 2011 San Diego Padres Offense, known to many baseball circles as "Petty Theft Row"

I missed Ron Santo last night. Nothing better than him yelling incoherently in the background after a walk off win.

There is a game today people!! and then another one!

Garza is on pace to set the single game strikeout record.

The Padres felt bad for the cubs having to pitch shark and russell in game two and decided to even the odds and let eric alarm clock patterson and his .083 batting average get a start in game one.

Saw you could get tickets behind the dugout for under $20. I think Bryd is the new DP Lee. It's starting to become expected when he comes up with a man on first.

Marlon Byrd is still batting third....Quade,for the love of God, please move Byrd somewhere else in the batting order. I would rather have Fukodome hit third right now then Byrd.

The good outing is in serious jeopardy of turning bad.

Now what, marshall, wood, marmol? It would be nice to break this game loose and be able to throw out Mateo and Grabow.

Its the bottom of the order so If one of them can get through it efficiently I give them another inning and then Marmol.

Only using two relievers this game would be great news for the Shark tank game later tonight.

He must be saving the good guys for the game where the team is down by 6 runs.

The reason that relay from Castro pulled Pena off the bag is because Pena was so far out of position that he had to come back toward the infield to field what should have been a pretty decent throw.

Why are you burning multiple relievers in this inning? What the hell? Did he forget it is a double header today...

This is really bad. Play to win the game in front of you today, worry about the 2nd game later.

Should have went Marshall/Wood/Marmol, get the series win and then deal with the Russell/Shark pu-pu platter later

Darkside...I thought that was a potential play that Pena could have made to. Granted throw was off line...but a good stretch & it looked like he could have stayed on the bag.

Is Quade over managing ? Pitching changes - double switches? At least he is awake. Come on Marshall!

Damn that Moseley guy must be about ready to jump off a cliff. 4 starts and his team has not scored one run yet.

Jesse White seems like a pretty cool guy. I think he does a fantastic job as SoS, the best I can ever remember.
And he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
But he can't fuckin sing.

Pena to me looks like a guy who is hoping to get walked when he digs into the box. Unless I'm mistaking looking completely lost for looking like hoping to get walking.
Welcome to a .200 average mr. 10 million dollar FA. You and your one extra base hit. pfft.
