Riggins has done a great job so far with the pitching. Russell and Coleman have been brutal filling in. Garza and Dempster have been worse than they were last year, and Garza was coming from a tougher league. Shark, Mateo, Grabow, and Stevens are bad or worse. Marmol is also getting worse, but that could be from them abuse Lou put on him. So far, another great hire from the braintrust.

The Cubs have a 5-4 lead but Dempster is starting to struggle, Dempster is up with the bases loaded and two outs. The Dodgers have Mike MacDougal pitching and no left handed relievers and the Cubs have a bench full of left handed hitters.

Marshall, Wood and Marmol all are rested.

But Quade lets Dempster bat and proceeds to strike out and then gives up the lead the next inning, nice move Quade.

While Dempster certainly sucks this year, you cannot argue that he was a bad signing. He has been the most consistent pitcher for the last three seasons.

Listening is a skill. Bernsie never said he should bat 3rd NOW. Several years down the road if he continues to improve and get stronger. You agree with him.
