It's irrelevant that they played first from the onset of their pro careers when your original point was that players get moved to first when they can't play....
All right man. That's great. Thanks for the convo.

Your not gonna Smilie your way out of being clearly wrong

WHEN they switched is wrong

Also, most of your data on where players played is WRONG

Youve lost this argument. You didnt know that moving to first base is a tradition in MLB. Its ok.

Anyone reading this can see it.

I got the data from baseball reference.com. You think they got their information wrong?

No I think the problem lies with you.
Perhaps you read it wrong.

Here's the whole discussion wrapped up in one post by me.

rogers park bryan wrote:
.Players who cant play get moved to first base. Hard to DH in the Natl league.

What Im saying is, you clearly were unaware of the long standing tradition of moving people to first base who cant play their positoin. You scoffed at the notion.

Then I showed you proof and you questioned the era I was quoting.

So I gave you SEVERAL current cases.

Then you threw the DH thing in to make it look like I was saying more people move to first than DH.

Some become DH's
Some become First baseman

The first statement does not stop the second one from being true.

What am I looking at wrong?
I see 3 for position every year.
Looks like he played 116 games at 1st his rookie year?

No one thought he would hit .275 or 40 hrs. I think .225 and 30 hrs would have been best case scenario.

What the fuck man.
If they guy played over 100 games at first his rookie year, they didn't move him there to hide his defense.
If he spent his first 10 years as say a second baseman or Centerfielder, THEN I could see you being right about a guy like him but jesus dude he played the OVERWHEALMING majority of games his rookie year at first.
Ok, I'm done, man, we're not going to get anywhere.

What would you say if the 65 games came first?

Im done too.

Ill end it with this and I hope you can agree.

More players have been moved to first base then any other defensive postion due to their poor play at their position.

Keyser makes the point that guys get moved to left. Thats true. But its nowhere near as many as first base.

Ill admit that putting "old" in my original post probably wasnt the best way to phrase it.

I disagree. More are moved to DH or to left than to first.

Secondly, Teixeira played 25 games in the outfield his rookie year. and 15 at 3rd.
His entire career he played 1,172 games at 1st, 32 in the outfield and 15 at 3rd. So a whopping 47 games NOT at first. I think that pretty much tells you the dude is a first baseman, pretty much always was.

No that doesnt tell me that. It tells me it didnt take long to figure out he couldnt play 3b in the majors.

And I specifically put Defensive Postion. DH is not a defensive postion.

And youre wrong about LF

Pujols was also moved quickly. Doesnt mean he was always a first baseman.

It means the Cardinals were quick to recognize that would be his best place.

Why does that make yo eye roll?

I put it specifically as if to say "Yes many go to DH and I should have mentioned that, but of the ACTUAL positions many go to first base."

Also, before the 70's players didnt even have the option to DH.

Old slow outfielders were moved to first.

There are first baseman who have played the position their entire lives. Little league, high school, college, minors, pros. There is no such thing as a life long left fielder. EVERYONE who plays left field was moved there because they couldn't handle other positions. The left fielder is the worst fielder on the team. It's baseballs version of Siberia.

He's not a slow starter!
In fact, April is generally his 2nd best month to July!

Adam Dunn career splits:
BA/OBP/SLG
April .259/.409/.545
May .246/.374/.548
June .249/.369/.526
July .286/.404/.572
August .234/.370/.502
Sept-Oct .222/.351/.420

No. In little league the fattest slowest kid is the catcher.

These stats are career stat splits from Baseballreference.com.
It's pretty obvious that Sept-Oct is the worst by a fair margin. April is his second best. I think if I said the sky was blue and the sun was yellow you'd argue with me about it today. Not sure how much more clear these stats could possibly be. For his career, he is NOT a slow starter.
Thanks.

Youre just mad now.

Im not even disagreeing with you

I couldnt find the career splits. As I said, ESPN only shows the last three years.

In his last three years (which is generally accepted as the period to project a player going forward) april was his second worst month.

But his biggest homerun months are May June July and August.

I believe he'll warm up with the weather.

I'm not mad, I'm just watching you argue against raw data which seems foolish. Someone said he was a slow starter, that is far from the truth. I'm confident that his last three years average is affected by 1/3rd of those numbers being from this year in which he is showing significant decline from his average. But don't let logic slow your roll!
I agree that he'll heat up eventually, but I am almost positive that his power numbers will be down considerably when the year shakes out. He's 31 and there's no Roid Prime coming any more. We're moving back to reality when players peak in their late 20s again. Also, he's facing MUCH better pitching now.
162 game average (we know he won't play 162 games but that's how the math works out) 39 HR and 183k... I'd bet on less than 32 homers and over 200k this year.
