Rumor has him going to MIN for a 4th round pick, after they release Brad Johnson.

Would he (Carr) be worth it for the Bears (in other words, would he be better than Griese)?

You talkin about Johnson with the bears?
Then No. Too damn, well, like every other crappy QB the bears have had. We need a superstar.
You mean Carr?
No thanks. Just re-upped on a big contract I think

edit, put in the contract part...

In a vaccuum, yes. He might even be better than Grossman.
I think he has a pretty big cap number, though...

I wouldn't mind taking a look at Carr if he were released. Under his current contract, no chance.

Carr has been pretty good, with a bad team. He could be good, he could be bad, but for a 4th round pick it is worth a shot. No 4th round pick is anywhere close to a sure thing.

Not if we have to absorb the cap hit with that contract, and I don't think he's been anything more than average, and below average mainly.

too much $.

jury is still out on him for me, mainly because he's basically had 5 kassim mitchells blocking for him through his tenure in texas.

Wouldn't the Texans take the cap hit on his signing bonus while the Bears would simply be responsible for his annual pay? If that's the case, I'd take him.

You are correct Midget. I think Houston gets hit on the prorated sighning bonus. I still think Grossman could be the guy. But for a third round pick I'd trade for him. Absolutly.

His offensive line has always been poor, but he also gets sacked a lot because he has no pocket presence. He's a Rob Johnson clone.

I say no.

Why not offer a 1st round pick for him? He has only played in 76 games and isn't playing any better than he was his first year. They brought in a coach the helped Jack Plummer play like a Pro Bowl quarterback for a year and that didn't help. Doesn't he play with a great WR and a good possession WR? Shouldn't that help him? How many times did he fumble last year? I wouldn't mind having him as a backup over Griese or Orton but not for a high draft pick. Truthfully I would rather see Orton as the backup over Griese. Orton can possibly get better but Griese is what he is.

Not to bring up an old argument, but this is exactly why the QB job needs to be open for next year. If Griese is what he is then it will be shown and he will lose to Rex(and maybe even Orton) and we can move on.

I want to know if the only QB we have signed long term sucks or not. Make it happen Lovie.

I believe I made my feelings known on this issue a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not a huge fan of Carr's or anything but he was solid coming out of college. He has good size and a great arm, and he seems durable and mature. It is/was a tough situation to get drafted by an expansion team. A change of scenary should be a good thing. I don't see Grossman taking the Bears to the promised land. Make a deal and get Carr he has the potential to be a franchise QB and i don't think you get a good evaluation with him getting his ass kicked every Sunday wit the Texans. Their O-Line was dogshit.

I don't think the Bears need a "Star" quarterback. I do not think Carr is a star at all. I do not hate Grossman but i think we have seen as good as he gets, and it is not good enough. He plays scared, he talks a good game but he plays scared and that is the word on the street in the NFL. He will never lose that "tag". He fumbled 2 snaps in the Super Bowl dude.......and yeah....if I was your coach and you were my QB....and you were fumbling snaps and throwing the ball up for grabs consistently.....then I look for a new man to lead my team.

I can’t believe how much they just gave up for Shaub (two 2nd round picks, plus ATL moves up from the tenth pick to the eigth pick). That’s outrageous. The Atlanta front office is probably throwing a celebratory kegger tonight.

Yeah, but Vick is still their QB.

Schaub is a really good QB who has sat behind Vick for too damn long. If the Texans shore up their O-line he should perform well. The same, however, could have been said for David Carr.

btw....i love reading Nas' posts in Grossman's defense.
sell me Nas! sell me!

I know the kid can play, Doug, but that's still an insane price to pay. NFL players are like used cars. I’m always taken aback by the lack of value teams get in return for legitimate pros. Good players are frequently traded for middle round draft picks (ie: Thomas Jones, Adewale Ogunleye, etc). For a player that has flashed some talent but has yet to prove he’s a bonafide pro QB, I’m quite surprised that Atlanta was able to reel in that much from Houston.

o.k....
i'm not suggesting that Matt Schaub is going to be one of these guys, (NFL dudes know more about talent than I do) but let's think about a few "journeymen" QB's who had at least 2 solid years.

Steve Young
Matt Hasselbeck
Rich Gannon

so, three guys that led their teams to superbowls after bouncing/sitting around a bit. but, i'm not suggesting the Texans in 08 either.....

b/c there are guys like:
Scott Mitchell
Kordell Stewart (or any Bears QB grabfest with the exception of maybe Jim Miller)
Jake Plummer is debateable.

and many, many, more....

Schaub is one of those "perfect thrower" guys, who happens to be able to move around well. so, i'm not totally surprised about the deal. b/c if Vick goes down, ATL is fuct now.

So Atlanta drafts Schaub in the third round three years ago, he accomplishes very little in his three years in Atlanta, and now Texas trades two second round picks to obtain him.

So again he was a third round pick three years ago and now he has improved to be worth two second round picks just by sitting on the bench.

Very strange.

Culpepper, who did have the leg injury, goes for only 1 second round pick, yet Houston moves down a few spots in the 1st round, and gives up two 2nd round picks, one year after passing on both Young and Bush.

Yeah, but last season showed them that they're just one player away from the Superbowl....

Actually its Adams Archulte's squeeze....Jennifer Walcott. She was playmate of the year. The trade for AA is all good for me now.
