Same. I disagree about his Soriano point, but he's at least another functioning brain that posts in this section. Brings our total to 4 I think? Maybe 5?

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't want him batting 3rd. I think I must have worded what I was trying to say poorly. I would prefer Soriano to Castro batting 3rd. I'd prefer Ramirez to Soriano now. I'd prefer Pena to get his head out of his butt and bat 3rd over both of them, with Ram batting behind him in protection.
I mentioned that they have the best leadoff hitter they've had in... god, who was the last good leadoff hitter they had? Pierre's 200 hit season? so they've got the best leadoff hitter they've had in years and they bat him 3rd? yeah, I just don't see the genius that is Quade here. Seems a very elementry thing to keep him at #1.

The only place The Cubs should have veterans are for backups and in the rotation. BUT right now they can dump Big Z & Dempster. This team needs a change.

Dempster seemed just alright last night.

You can't dump whoever you want whenever you want, and you don't dump guys because they had a terrible month. Not when the total body of work shows they are pretty dependable...sometimes excellent.

So trade these guys when they suck? I would still trade them for something young & talented.

That makes more sense to me Deth. Ideally, this is how I'd do the 'everyday' lineup

Castro
Barney
Pena
Ramirez
Soto
Soriano
Byrd
Colvin
Pitcher

I put that lineup assuming Soto gets his avg up to the 270ish mark and OBP around 350/360 which I think he will.

Castro

A-Ram
Pena/Baker-at this point I would do a straight lefty/righty platoon until Pena starts hitting more consistantly
Byrd
Soriano
Fukudome
Soto

Pena not hitting for any power at all kills the Cubs lineup as it is constructed now

Obviously Pena is killing us, but you aren't doing him any favors putting him in front of Byrd. He needs consistent AB's and protected by Ram in the 4th spot is the best our lineup can do that makes at least some sense

Fair enough maybe he can get some fastballs to hit. But with Byrd hitting behind him he can work on taking walks from the cleanup spot and bunting against the shift for basehits
