Not that I actually give two craps about the James Bond franchise but 45 M seems to be a big amount for advertisers to be putting up towards a movie. At this point are we going to have to sit through a scene where James Bond talks about how smooth his Stoli martini is and then actually visits the factory for a tour of their history and distillation procedure?

Some of this product placement stuff is really becoming over the top. I watch Fringe, and the some scenes are filmed like you're watching a fucking commericial.

On a related note, I watched the NBA's Ultimate Playoff Moments of the 2000's on NBA TV this week. I saw that Bill Walton was a part of the show, so I DVR'ed it and watched it last night. It was sponsored by Cisco, and they chose to have Bill Walton contribute via Cisco's (something like Skype) service. That's all fine and dandy and giving them a plug in the beginning would be appropriate. But everytime they brought Bill Walton back in to speak, they talked about how great this Cisco product was, and how crystal clear Bill Walton looked.   It was just too over the top.

Why does Bond give you sense of patriotism? He was British.

It was The Taliban

The Taliban was formed in the 90's.

I believe some of the Afghans involved went on to both the Taliban and / or Al Qaeda, however.

The Taliban and AlQuaeda both evolved out of the Afghan/Soviet war in the 80's, so in theory, we're both correct.

You're both wrong.

Afghanistan and the Mujahadeen (sp?), defeated the Soviets. Neither the Taliban or Al Qaeda existed in the 80's.

Al Quaeda was founded in the late 80's, post war, as a factional split from the Mujahadeen. The Taliban evolved in the mid 90's out of what was left.

And IMU, the Mujahadeen was what the Afghan fighters were referred to during that war.

Bond movies have always been a vehicle for product placement starting with Astin Martin.
