It's common knowledge that Katie Couric will soon vacate her seat as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" when her contract expires next month and will be replaced by "60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley on the New York-based dinnertime newscast. It appears as if Katie is about to leave the trademark CBS' "eye" completely once she signs off the newscast she has anchored the last 5 years.

According to TMZ.com, Katie is thisclose to signing a new $20 million deal with rival ABC after talks with CBS News and "60 Minutes" completely collapsed when network bosses refused to give Katie a substantial role on the network's long-running newsmagazine.

At ABC, Katie would reportedly have quite a presence at the "alphabet" network. She would contribute specials & reports on ABC News-produced shows such as "20/20", including a great deal of anchoring. She would also host a much-publicized daytime talk show 5 days a week starting in September 2012, but it could come at an additional cost, according to TMZ sources.

The possible addition of Couric may also mean a scheduling shuffle that could mean the end of "General Hospital". The daytime soap has been a fixture on ABC's daytime schedule since 1963, and will soon be the only such show on its schedule with the network announcing the cancellations of "All My Children" & "One Life to Live" from its schedule later this year. The cancellations of these dramas are part of a shift in daytime TV viewing habits in recent years and ABC bosses are reportedly considering giving back an hour back to its affiliates for syndicated programming, similar to what NBC & CBS have done.

I've never found Katie Couric all that attractive to be honest with you. That being said, I was reporting the news of the day, something Katie doesn't do very well.
