Will they deal?

If they go for anything, it will be Abdur Rahim who looks like he needs a change of scenery. He'll never be a 20 point scorer again, but he's serviceable as a 20 mins a night guy - score 8-10 off the bench and rebound 4-5.

If they trade for Rahim, I'm going to assume that he's healthy and just stuck in a bad situation right now in Sacramento with that team going nowhere. I hope the Bulls give him the opportunity to play about 30 minutes a night to see if he can be more productive, and actually make a trade for him actually help. If he's coming off the bench and playing 15-20 minutes a night, I just don't see the point of acquiring him. Give him a chance to play off the top - we have no inside scoring, and if he is healthy, the more time on the court now, will only help in the playoffs.

This is, of course, is they do acquire him.

Please Paxson, don't make any trades for players like Etan Thomas though! Sam Smith saying that they were close to getting Nazr Mohammed last week was scary enough.

I would be shocked if they made a major deal as Paxson seems relunctant to move Deng or Gordon, so if they do anything it's going to be for a player like Rahim, and as Spinning Buckets has said, it won't be for anybody who's going to jack up their salary structure.

Rahim doesn't come cheap:
5 year deal started on 05 for 29M. So he's just above the midlevel exception. You have to hold on to him for another 3 years.

Yep, and Pax wouldn't trade for him if it meant that he couldn't sign Deng, Gordon and Nocioni.

I think the only way they get him is part of a 4 team trade that's been rumored.

And when was the last time we saw a 4 team deal working?

They don't happen very often, but with the way the cap works, and which teams are pushed against it, it makes it tough to make trades sometimes without involving an additional team at times.

This is probably just the NY papers just making things up, but....

The Suns have offered Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell and a first-round pick to the Nets for Jason Kidd, according to the Bergen Record

Why would the Suns need JKidd? That doesn't make any sense.

I don't think Abdur-Rahim is near the player he once was, but he's still an upgrade over PJ Brown at the 4.

If Rahim is motivated, you get some flexibility where you can play him at the 3,4,5. He's been primarily a 4/5 the last few years but did play alot of 3 in the past. He might just be wearing down....he played a ton of mins in VAN/ATL when he got started and is in his 12th season.

If true, Must be worried about Nash breaking down by the end of the season....Last couple of seasons, he was worn down by the end of the playoffs.

Dallas deal sends Anthony Johnson back to Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have acquired Dallas Mavericks point guard Anthony Johnson in a exchange for a second-round draft pick, according to Hawks General Manager Billy Knight.season for the Mavericks.

He was playing just 14.1 minutes a game on a roster already stocked with quality point guards, including former Hawks player Jason Terry and Devin Harris.

Here's some of Chad Ford today....couple of Bulls items.

Max, Los Angeles: What's the latest on Jason Kidd? any chance that it will happen in the next 3 hours before the deadline?
Chad Ford: (12:04 PM ET ) Just talked to Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz, on my Daily Dish podcast. You can listen to the link from the ESPN.com NBA front page. He's saying that Kidd will be wearing a Nets uniform tomorrow. Sorry Laker fans.

Dayton, Ohio: Chad, are the Cavs going to get the Bibby deal done???

Chad Ford: (12:09 PM ET ) I just don't think they have the assets unless they can find a taker for either Larry Hughes or Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The Cavs don't have many assets or expiring contracts. For the Cavs to pull off a deal with the Kings, they'd have to include like five players to get one. Look for the Cavs to perhaps make a smaller deal for a point guard using Drew Gooden as the bait.

Scott, SLC. UT: What's the latest word on Pau Gasol? Would the Bulls really give up Deng and Gordon?

Chad Ford: (12:16 PM ET ) No. I don't think they'll give up Deng for Gasol ... Ben Gordon yes. Personally, I would do a Gordon, Tyrus Thomas and P. J. Brown deal for Gasol. But I understand Jerry West's position. Gasol is a really good player. The Grizzlies don't have to trade him and won't give him away. To me, Gordon and Thomas, are very talented and not just throw ins and I think they fit the overall direction of an uptempo team. Put those two with Rudy Gay, Mike Miller and Kyle Lowry and I think you've got a really talented, athletic nucleus to build around. But as of right now, everything we're hearing is that this Gasol to the Bulls trade isn't going to happen. However, in the past I've seen things change in the last 3 or 4 hours before the deadline ... so don't write it off completely

Alex (Miami): Anything from Miami, now that Wade is out they NEED some help! Now!

Chad Ford: (12:22 PM ET ) That's one way to look at it and they do have assets. Lots of people are interested in James Posey's expiring contract and others and people wouldn't mind getting their hands on Dorrell Wright. The question is ... with Wade out ... is it worth it. Why trade cap flexibility and assets if the season looks a little hopeless. I don't see the Heat winning any games with Wade out. Shaq can't carry the load the way he used to.

Moe (Chicago): Whats going on with the Shareef Abdul Raheem going to the Bulls deal?

Chad Ford: (12:23 PM ET ) I can't see it. Abdul Rahim has too many years left on his contract ... doesn't fit with the Bulls cap flexibility strategy.

Dave K, Minneapolis: Why is the Minnesota Timberwolves Front Office so colossally inept? Please tell me they do something about our roster today!

Chad Ford: (12:35 PM ET ) If they don't move Kevin Garnett to the Bulls by 3 p.m., They'll never get anything great in return for him and the team will never get out of the first round of the NBA playoffs. That's about all I can say about the Wolves roster today. Kevin McHale is about to hand Fred Hoiberg the keys to the Titanic in Minnesota.

Christian, bend, or: Any news on the Warriors front?? Does Mullin believe his team can make playoffs with one true big man?

Chad Ford: (12:36 PM ET ) They're trying using Jason Richardson as bait. I also think Baron Davis can be had. Mickael Pietrus too. But the truth is no one is burning up the phone lines to get any of those guys right now.

Hearing that ticking clock? That could either be the end of Salibury in Chicago or the trading deadline winding down with no big deals being made....

I wonder if Paxson is suffering from the Jerry Krause disease: he won't make a trade unless he's clearly won it. If the rumors are true that he wouldn't give up any of his top four players for Gasol, that's not a good sign for the Bulls future.

These GM's amuse me. Why no one has hired me as a consultant baffles me. I mean I, and I stress I did bring the city of Chicago 6 championoships all by myself. What are these morons thinking.

I understand why, individually, he likes each of his 4 young players, but collectively, it just is nearly impossible to win without A) superstar B) big man, and the Bulls have neither.

I agree wholeheartedly, BD. Paxson seems to value team chemistry over superstar ability, and I think his philosophy may only get the Bulls so far...But time will tell. I do like Pax.

Look at Garnett's numbers and Gasol's numbers. I don't see how you're coming to the conclusion that Garnett makes them an instant favorite and Gasol does little for them. Gasol's numbers are similar, and he's 4 years younger.

Garnett
Gasol

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Garnett; but I think people are underestimating Gasol.

I'm not in favor of trading for Garnett in the off-season. He's been in the league now for like 12 seasons, he can optout of his contract after next season plus he'll probably cost at least 3 valuable assets. Plus, without PJ Brown's contract, can they even match salaries ?

Kevin Garnett would have made this team the favorite in the East. I wonder if he could've been had for the expiring contracts of PJ Brown, Mike Sweetney and Malik Allen ($13.1 million combined), Ben Gordon + a draft pick.

Kevin McHale isn't exactly a smart GM.

I don't think Garnett would have made them a favorite in the East if it would have cost Deng and Gordon plus other parts.

I actually agree; I should have been more clear and stated that, all things being equal, I prefer Garnett. Garnett's better than Gasol, but not that much better.

You probably can if you offer Hinrich, who's on the books for $11 mil next season. A sign & trade w/ Nocioni is another possibility. In any case, blockbuster trades are always easier when you have a big expiring contract to center the deal around.

I'm disappointed we couldn't at least move PJ for a player expiring next year, so we could take one more shot at getting a superstar. It's hard to criticize Pax when we have no idea what the variety of offers were. But at the same time, I'm a bit frustrated with the way things turned out.
