#13 Georgia Tech will be playing at UIC this weekend. They must have signed a home/home series with them because UIC went to Georgia Tech last year. Georgia Tech features 3 players who will be high draft picks in next months draft. 3B Jack Skole could go in the 2-4 range, Friday night starter Mark Pope could go in the 3-5 range and Saturday starter Jed Bradley will be a top 10 pick and could be a possibility for the Cubs at #9 (though I have him going to the Nats at #6).
There will be no shortage of scouts at these games and I can almost guarantee Jim Hendry and Kenny Williams will be in attendance for both Friday and Saturdays games. I hope the weather is nice this weekend because this may be too good an opportunity to pass up.
There were plenty of scouts there Saturday....but the pitching wasn't particularly impressive. both starters were only in the middle 80's & neither had much movement on their pitches. It was a grindy baseball....filled with kids who couldn't execute pickoff throws to 1st.
And Hawg...if you think the pace slows down after a 12 y.o. baseball season, you're in for a helluva surprise.
I could only make it to sunday's game (stupid sat, sun, mon series). There were tons of scouts there to see Jed Bradley but no Hendry or Kenny (but Jerry Krause was there!).
I wasn't particularly impressed with Bradley either. He certainly looks the part but I expected more out of arguably the top left handed pitcher in a loaded draft. He throws hard and has a nasty slider but he labored sunday. This is a kid that averages more than a strikeout an inning playing in the ACC and he could only get 2 in 6 innings against UIC. Maybe the Jackets enjoyed Chicago a little too much saturday night but who can blame them.
Skole and the SS Esch are the real deal. GT may be my new team (sorry Hawger).
