Didn't Castillo get suspended for failing a drug test,or was that another catcher?

Maybe that is why he wasn't in AAA for the first 3 or so weeks this year.

Five players have been suspended 50 games each for violating the minor league drug policy.

The commissioner’s office announced the penalties Tuesday.

Chicago Cubs catcher Erick Castillo and pitcher Amalio Reyes were suspended for positive drug tests. They are both on the roster of the Cubs’ team in the Dominican Summer League.

Free agent pitcher Junior Astacio and outfielder Pedro Nunez were suspended for positive drug tests. Free agent pitcher Tony Feliz was banned because he failed to take a drug test.

Theriot blows. I can't stand him. Cards won though! I'll be there tomorrow night in my blue Gibson jersey.

That is not him. The DSL is where you are before you ever leave the island. That is pre-florida rookie ball.

Geovany Soto left Tuesday's game for a pinch-hitter in the first inning after suffering a left groin strain, and may be headed to the disabled list.

The Cubs will send Soto for an MRI Wednesday morning, and are expected to call-up catcher Welington Castillo from Triple-A Iowa.

"He did the splits to block a ball in the first inning, and the splits were not good," manager Mike Quade said after the game. "He's going to have an MRI in the morning. We'll see how severe it is and hope for the best. It's a tough place to be squatting when your groin is bad, so we have to be careful with this."

Koyie Hill went 0-for-4 in Soto's place and dropped a catchable throw from Kosuke Fukudome on Ryan Theriot's sacrifice fly in the seventh. Hill is hitting .125 for the season in only 16 at-bats, after going 1-for-32 in Cactus League games this spring.

Castillo is hitting .245 at Iowa after starting out the season rehabbing an injury at Class-A Daytona

hill is a bum and will always be, he never should have been on the roster. i watched maybe 3 minutes of the game, long enough to see hill drop that ball on the sac fly on . also long enough to see quade's dumb ass have big z bunt with castro on first, if it was any other pitcher i agree with that move..not carlos..it was dumb

Hill is so bad that I would have actually had him bunt Castro over to 2nd to put him in scoring position for Z

There is a very good chance Castillo will be with the team as soon as today.

Ut oh. Pujols and Hendry hugged before the game...

Quote:
Albert Pujols shared a brief greeting with Chicago general manager Jim Hendry around the batting cage at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, embracing and conversing before the series opener between the Cubs and Cardinals. Hendry, who figures to be a key suitor should Pujols become a free agent, spoke briefly to reporters about the encounter.

"Well, he hugged me first?" Hendry told reporters when asked about the greeting. "He's a lot bigger and stronger than me."

Pujols, who had four hits in the Cardinals' 6-4 victory, could have his first shot at free agency after this season. The three-time National League Most Valuable Player Award winner is poised to be the hottest player on the open market, and while Hendry would likely love a shot at adding Pujols, he said that Tuesday's conversation was anything but business.

"'I'm not going to treat Albert any different, and the same with him," Hendry said. "We don't talk about what's going to happen. It's 'How's your son?' 'How's your kids?' I'm just a little different. I've always gotten along with players."

Why is the first part of this quote a question

I think Bruce Levinline asked if Pujols was a pitcher or a catcher.

Unfortunately I think it is more likely that Hendry is still the Cubs GM next year than Pujols being back on the Cards.

If he is the GM next year.....there may be no fan base left to speak of. Everyone has a limit and that would probably be it for damn near everyone.

Ricketts just needs some more evaluation time. Crane Kenney told him so

It will be impossible to support the organization if he is. I'm not going to go find some other team, but I won't return to following them until he is gone. Maybe I will just watch the minor league teams....hell I pay more attention to the Smokies than the big league cubs anyways.

Well isn't this just fucking peachy...if Castillo is in the building get him in the god damn lineup already. He is there so there is no reason why Hill is playing again. When Soto gets back Castillo needs to stay and Hill can go be the bullpen catcher he always should have been somewhere.

I know it's a small thing but the Koyie Hill resigning/arbitration offer is totally mystifying to me. The guy is obviously not a major league ball player. No idea why he is on this team.

This team blows. I'm not blaming Quade either. He loses two decent SP to injury & is forced to start Russell. Casey Coleman I have faith in to give you 5 good innings followed by getting his ass kicked in 1 inning at least. Hendry has to be launched SOON. To much time in the organization, with only one close call to winning the pennant. McCask...I mean Ricketts has to realize a loser when he sees one...I HOPE!

ricketts will launch that bum..it would be for pr and buy him some time with fans, and it will work. quade is in over his head and it shows..but this 130 million dollar team with a great manager could win 84 games...so with a scrub like quade 78, either way hendry set this club up for failure. what pisses me off is this division blows and it will not suck forever...when the cubs get better they will have to beat better divisional teams..now is the best time to win a world series in a garbage division.

The frustrating thing is that most people agree with this and yet he did it anyways. Its as if his goal isn't to put the best possible team on the field or go with a cheap youth movement knowing there will be growing pains. His goal seems to be to see how he can dress up a shit sandwich and sell the most tickets.

This time for evaluation of Hendry shit is absurd too. He could ask 10,000 people who follow baseball if they thought he should fire Hendry and every single one of them would say yes....all the way from the best analysts down to wooooo.

i would not be surprised to see castillo ride the pine and be an emergency backup until hendry's dumb ass signs a washed up backup catcher and then send castillo back down
