CINCINNATI- The Cubs optioned Tyler Colvin to Triple-A Iowa after Monday's loss to Cincinnati.

Colvin hit .113 in 62 at-bats and was not getting regular playing time.

"It's something he definitely needs to go play," general manager Jim Hendry said. "He had a really good year for us and since the first days of spring training he never played up to that level. We're in the production business.

"It wasn't that he wasn't given enough at-bats. He didn't earn enough at-bats. The other guys here outplayed him, too., He needs to go down and play for a few weeks and once he does we can go back to the plan we had for him. he completely understood and was looking forward to getting some at-bats."

There was no corresponding roster move, since Triple-A Iowa was still playing its game in Reno, Nev.

Production business my ass. Way to be a dick about it Jim.

The only other outfielder on the 40 man is Perez and he hasn't done anything to earn a call. I am guessing that they will transfer Cashner to the 60 day DL which will open up a 40 man spot for LaHair or Montanez or they could get crazy and call up Flaherty as he can play 2nd, 3rd and the corners in the OF. Knowing Hendry though....he will probably call up Bobby Scales.

Moore? Seriously Hendry? Why the hell would you pass over Smith to bring this guy up?

Purely speculative at this point, but he was pulled from the game tonight after 1 AB which usually indicates he is the guy. I hope not. I would rather see one of the old mashers or some of the future. He is neither.

Sounds like a Hendry move, i.e. bad. At least Quade ripped the ballclub tonight. About fucking time he went off.

I think I would bench Soriano until the Boston set and then let him DH. His fielding is very bad right now. He had some bad AB's too where he was trying to pull outside pitches which means his hot streak is officially over.

what an asshole...always throwing his young players under the bus because he can...yet he dont dare touch Soriano, Fukudome, or any of the other guys that he so monumentally kissed-ass and overpaid to get

what a fuckin bully

bottom line Jim, he didnt GET enough AB's...when a young player sees that he wont get enough AB's, then its gonna be hard for him to earn AB's, especially after he actually DID earn those AB's with the season he had last year

goddamn he never ceases to just embarass himself

and by the way, I love Scott Moore...he can play, just never had a chance...a LH-hitting 3B-man is a treasure

Tyler Colvin = Matt Murton. I'm sure he'll be decent in Japan.

Whistler turning into a jagoff is a bad sign for Cubs baseball.

Thomas Diamond was already demoted from the 40-man roster. So if someone off the 40-man should be called up, there's a roster spot for him.

Why not call up Lou, Luis, Louise Montanez? He has 40 RBI in Iowa so far. Would be a nice bat to have off the bench.

Campana is the latest version of greenberg/fuld. He can at least run the bases well and play defense. The Cubs probably win the game last night if he is in for Soriano.

Hendry is going to make sure he doesn't get to Cinci in time to play tonight. It would be pretty cool for a kid from Ohio who went to Cincy to make his major league debut there.

They called up Campana instead of Fernando Perez? Perez is struggling in triple A but he still has major league experience and Hendry traded for him to be a slappy, speedy, defensive outfielder. Interesting move.

What you are all overlooking is that Campana is the reigning South League Hustler of the year. There really is an award for that and he really did win it.

actually from the sounds of it im gonna like this guy

we need more guys like this

a guy like Fuld perhaps...Barney, Theriot, etc...its funny how Hendry always imports power hitters, yet all the players we bring up or slap hitters who dont last...i dont get why Hendry bothers bringing em up when really hates these kind of players? well, on second thought, it's probly because he feels he can bully them around

Unless this kid is going in for a "Steve Rogers" transformation,he looks like the white Juan Pierre.
