But do you suppose the meatballs calling for him to be fired 80 gamesish into his manageral career would be bemoaning the choice if he beat Billy Bob Thudpucker out for the job and not Ryne Sandberg?

Not that I'm all that happy with him mind you but there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to think Sandberg would be better.

Sometimes the best thing to happen to you is to not win the tough job. Because then people will always think you would be better with no evidence.

I like him. So he jerks the line-up around, big deal. He seems to have a little bit of a red ass which this team needs.

The line-up shuffle is driving me up a wall.

I don't mind it except we've all seen Castro doesn't hit as well in the 3 hole. In the first, second, sixth, or seventh spot, he dominates. It is just something about him changing his approach when he is in the 3 hole...he is too young a kid to jerk around like that. Let him get comfortable and do what he does best...in the best possible role for him.

He isn't a three hitter...not at 21.

+1. Let him develop first then move Castro to the 3 hole, similar to what the Marlins did with Hanley.

There just isn't a big RBI threat on this team. Ramirez or Pena should be their 3 and 4, in whichever order Quade decides.

If they bring back Quade and Hendry after this season, then this organization will be the laughingstock of baseball. They should have hired Sandberg as he is familiar with their young talent in the organization and he could be gaining experience as well. Quade has no business managing a big league ballclub.

Pena's OPS in May is 1.054. There's no reason why he should continue to hit 6th or 7th.

I dont get this logic. You bash Quade for being a minor league guy but then you are calling for Sandberg because he is a minor league guy. Which is it?

Quade is a minor league manager in the sense he cannot handle a job in the big leagues and is in over his head. Sandberg paid his dues in the minors and is capable of managing at the big league level and could be gaining invaluable experience right now.

3 years of coaching is "paying your dues"?

Well Hendry wasnt the only one who thought Sandberg wasnt capable to manage in the big leagues. Every other team in the MLB had a chance to hire him and didnt. Isnt he managing the Phillies AAA team?

Sandberg might have been the right guy but I dont know if 3 years in the minors is paying his dues. The only thing we know for sure that Sandberg is better than Quade at is playing 2B.

So what you are saying is that Mickey Morandini should have been managing the Cubs

So you feel Quade is a quality big league manager?

I dont know yet. He has made some questionable decisions but he hasnt even had a full season under his belt. Give him some time and we shall see.

I dont know that anyone else could have done much better so far. Lou Pinella had a WS ring and decades of experience and he didnt do much better the last couple of seasons. Sandberg would have been as green as Quade. Maybe he would have done the same things so far.

It is quite possible that the Cubs have the worst owner, GM, & Manager in MLB right now. I predicted both Ricketts & Quades failure from day one. I wish I was wrong though. As a lifelong Cubs fan, I have never been more apathetic towards the Cubs than right now.

Wow, you really went out on a limb with the prediction that this team would suck. I had them winning the world series....

Connie Mack and George Steinbrenner wouldn't succeed with this shit-fest of a roster.

How do we know that Sandberg is capable of managing at the big league level?

I wish he would leave Castro alone, but aside from him I don't care if he changes the lineup every night. I think he has room to grow as far as when a pitcher is done and needs to be pulled. That may also be his unimpressive pitching coach too. If he had all of the youth he wants on this team he would be an effective manager and this team would be better.

I guarantee he would dump Aram right now for Marquez Smith if Hendry would let him. He would probably also recommend trading Soriano for an equally bad AL contract because you can not win with that kind of defense regardless of his home run total. Is Figgins contract equally bad? It's not like you are dumping Bradley, Soriano would not be a bad DH.

Edit: Figgins makes half what Soriano does so that is a no go. The only comparable one I can find is Wells whose contract is worse by 11 mil total I think. I would either ask the Angels for the money to make it even or I would make them take Aram right now too and that should even things out. Get those no trades waived and make it happen Jim.
